Mustang Series/Parallel?

Post by himitsu » Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:05 pm

Hi everyone. I'm planning to mod my Squier VM Mustang to have my volume knob be a Series/Parallel push/pull pot and add a concentric pot for tone and a control for a black ice overdrive.
I'm new to modding guitars, with minimal experience in wiring. But, I generally know how I want to accomplish this mod. Any input or opinions would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure if anyones done a similar mod before, but if so a wiring diagram for either would be helpful so I don't have to fiddle around as much.

If your guitar uses a toggle switch for the pickup selector, this would work. The push-pull switch is separate from the pot wiring, so you can just wire the volume pot push-pull like the series-parallel switch here. Just note which mode you'd rather have in which position (series as push/down or series as pull/up).

Like so:

How to use a push-pull pot for a series/parallel mod (in this case, series would be in the up/pull position, i.e., if you want that reversed, wire the switch upside down from it's current position).

Otherwise, if you're looking for something else, there are a ton of schematics already up on this page:
