So further to my post a couple of weeks ago, I’ve embarked on my first attempt at a refinish.
Suspect that trying a CAR is not the easiest choice. I’m not expecting perfection!
So far got a nice primer and metallic silver coat. About a can and a half of translucent red nitro in.
The finish so far is “ok” but a little patchy. I suspect partly cos I’m stuck with spraying outside and it’s always windy as I live on top of a massive hill!
Anyway. What’s the best way of evening it all out?
Do I jus keep spraying red selectively.
Should I try and gently sand it a little first? What grit of so?

Re: Candy Appling….
Are you using a spray can? If so, make sure you’re using the flat tip that usually comes with them. It’s much harder to get an even finish with the standard circle tips.Ceepers wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 12:51 pmSo further to my post a couple of weeks ago, I’ve embarked on my first attempt at a refinish.

I wouldn’t sand anything. And don’t spray selectively. Just spray nice, even passes across the whole guitar. I saw you’re using a bike rack. I actually use the same one. Try setting it up in a way where the guitar is being held vertically. This will make it easier to spray even and require less passes than spraying vertically. Meaning, have the guitar sideways when spraying, because then it’ll only take 3-4 even passes to cover the guitar, rather than the 8 or so it may take if the guitar is sprayed vertical

Candy is tough to spray without getting "stripes" in the paint.
You have to overlap your passes making sure to cover part of your last pass.
Once you think you have enough coverage let it dry and polish...

If you are using nitro cellulose respraying is easy...light sand1000 grit then shoot it again.

Thanks for the replies so far!
Yeah using northwest guitars nitro cans so square nozzle.
That bike stand horizontal tip is a great idea!
Is it ok
To
Sand even though it’s a translucent paint?
I think o need to wait for a non windy day so that I’m getting a consistent spray. I’m not very patient!
