Jag knob plate on a JM?

Post by Loomer » Sat May 17, 2008 10:33 pm

If I wanted to put a knob and jack plate from a Jag onto my JM, would it line up well enough to at least cover the route? I don't have a problem re-drilling holes or chiseling away at a corner if I have to.

I'm not sure it will work. THe shape is a bit different. And the Jag plate has the knobs more aft. So you would have to fill the volume pot hole in your JM guard.
There never was a metal Guard/plate on the Jazzmaster, unless you count the Anodized guard as metal.

I'm aware.  :)  If it fits I plan on getting a custom guard. The main reason I want it is to put the volume down where it belongs, like the Jag, not up in the line of fire so I turn the stupid thing down and neuter my tone mid-riff.  ::)

Mine is a jazzmaster shape but with routing for the Jag plates.  Works fine, but not sure how it would if the original JM routes were present:

I believe Thurston Moore puts Jag trem plates on some of his JM.

No, that's perfect. Obviously someone didn't take much time or pride in the mod, but it seems to cover okay. Thanks for posting this!

Does this help?

You'll need to rout out the body to fit the pots, though.

Oh wow, that's cool. I wonder why Jags have a deeper upper cutaway than Jazzmasters.

That's exactly what I've wanted to do for the longest time. I really wish Fender would make this exact guitar. I know they came out with their "pinup" custom shop jazzmasters with three single coils, but those didn't work at all aesthetically, compared to this.
