How do you folks feel about black pearl on a LPB Jaguar?
I’m back and fourth on how I feel about it… its definitely different. The idea was to do something similar to the 60th anniversary jags, which had red+red tort. Instead of blue tortoise, I figured black pearl would work since it’s a blue based black.
I may go back to white, but I’m not sure. Thoughts?

I like it. Though for black, I prefer plain black (1-ply, or with a wide bevel if multi-ply).

Thanks! Yes I have seen that. I feel like white is just that classic look. I wanted to try something different hahaGordon wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 7:32 pmI like it. Though for black, I prefer plain black (1-ply, or with a wide bevel if multi-ply).

It looks awful to me (you *did* ask ).
Plain blackguard FTW as mentioned above.

I'm not a fan of black pearloid on anything to be honest, reminds me of those cheap starter guitars that were available in UK late 90's, early 00's.
Good standard tort or parchment would be my choice.

I’m curious- did fender, during the mid-late 60s, use plain white or parchment on these LPB guitars?

thanks for trying out the black pearl on your guitar.
Because I now know that I won't want to do it on mine.
Something about the pearloid clashes with the chrome, perhaps there is too much white in it.
Thanks anyway

I’m not a fan, but a photo with better natural light might help. I like pearl, but “black” pearl is an odd mottled grey and not as widely usable as plain black.
From Gordon’s link, Gold + LPB looked great.
Or how about this

Re: How do you folks feel about black pearl on a LPB Jaguar?
I feel I could go either way, maybe a bit like in the original post... I think it basically looks fine, but something in the color aggregate or swathe kind of doesn't quite mesh with the blue. The chrome and white and black and metal more or less goes with the chrome, but then there's not really anything to tie to the blue. It might work a bit better if the blue was the contrast color or "spice" instead of what's covering the largest area of the body.

For LPB, I think the safest bet is generally always mint. Going white (or even parchment) will probably make the aged white pickup cover and tremolo tip stick out too much.
