Re: Antigua Jazmaster Project
Good food for thought so far. I could see it being too much of the same and contrast being better.

I always thought antigua looked corny as heck, but this looks absolutely stunning.HNB wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 11:19 amScreenshot_20240517_185344_eBay by Christopher Louck, on Flickr
Also, definitely silver for hardware.

The only hitch is the pickguard is Japanese speced so it doesn't match with the bridge holes. Matt is kind enough to do a different guard for me though. Here is what I mean.

If the guard wasn't painted, I would dremel the holes, but I don't want to risk chipping the paint off.

Re: Antigua Jazmaster Project
This shows the issue with import guards on US bodies. I know Allparts says their guards work on US bodies, but they really don't. They don't match AVRI pickguard templates and the bridge holes don't match up with the body. The holes are fine, but when you add the thimbles, the edge makes import guards push up into the neck pocket. So you either have to sand the pickguard in the pocket or in the bridge holes to get the guard to sit right.

The mounting holes also can be off, which isn't a huge deal for a body that hasn't had a pickguard installed, but the bridge holes being off like this is a pain.
Again, Matt is letting me send a US spec guard in to be painted so I am super appreciative. This is more to help anyone who us building a project with a Jazzy and has issues with the guard lining up. Normally import uses MIJ/Allparts guards. US/MIM need US guards to fit correctly.

Hah, grammas pajamas.
I always file out under the bridge…it’s almost always covered.
The neck pocket is a smidge more visible in most of my instruments…22frets notwithstanding.

Seriously though, I think it would go great with chrome hardware and white for pickups and controls. I think you want the contrast, which will tame the brown but also will contrast and let everything pop.
What are the plans for the neck? I think I’d be careful to avoid anything vintage tint since it’ll almost certainly look like a mismatched color compared to the body. Maybe a dark rosewood or ebony over a light maple.

You’re always keeping busy! I like Antigua sometimes. I really like shade on this one. It looks like smoked Gouda. Tasty!

Normally if you get the right guard, you don't need to file. I have done that in the past, but since this is a painted pickguard, I didn't want to risk chipping the paint off of it.Chippertheripper wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 8:53 amHah, grammas pajamas.

MIM neck with pao ferro. Color wise it seems to look pretty good next to the body.electric__ralph wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 9:37 amSeriously though, I think it would go great with chrome hardware and white for pickups and controls. Re: Antigua Jazmaster Project
Here is the neck I got for it. I think the fretboard color looks good with the body colors.
