Yeah, that actually looks really good, but I'm someone who never got upset over the Classic Player placement. I'd have been fine with the closer spacing, the issue for me was the awful AOM.

I have a Blacktop Jaguar I've always wanted to do this to, and your project is starting to inspire me. How far up did you move the bridge plate, just enough to cover the stopbar holes?

Yes, it is basically just pulled up enough to cover the holes. I haven't measured yet, but maybe moved up a 3/8" inches or so.

Doesn't look too bad in my mind. May do either the traditional trem or the faction style one with string holes near the rear of the plate.

I'm into this. Honestly, fender guitars as so beyond reasonably priced now I am messing with squiers and stuff too.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Coming across this thread, I forgot I started a mock up a while ago based on this same premise, but keeping it HH with cream humbuckers. Also replacing the black headstock with a new neck or sanding off the black paint to natural.

Now that I've seen the bridge placement applied in real life, the urge to start this project is strong :?

finally an update on this project! Here I married a Squier jaguar VM ( well, the neck and hardware) with a Squier Contemporary Jaguar HH ST because I fell for the Skyburst Metallic finish. Plus the body on the contemporary jag was super lightweight. Think it turned out cool and unique but required a lot of work, filling holes, routing, etc. to get the parts to play nice so I really can't recommend doing this. Nothing matched up too well. I had a credit at ay local guitar shop so they did a bulk of the work but took it upon myself to pickup a router so I could route the body for the trem tailpiece. Is playing pretty nice but my daughter is commandeering this particular guitar. :)

Well from that photo, it looks like it turned out great. Congrats on seeing it through!

Forgot to post, one of the best things is that the entire guitars weighs just 7lbs and 6 oz, super lightweight for a jaguar.

WOW! That looks sick! I missed this update completely somehow. Which spec pickguard did you use? Did they match up nicely with the existing screw holes? The pearloid one from earlier seemed to.

Also any trouble with fitting that different neck on there? I have a CV mustang neck lying around but the neck heel on it is wider than my other short scale necks.
