Fender Electric XII

Post by robert(og) » Thu Jul 17, 2008 9:30 am

did they come with a 4 position roto switch?
i always thought it was 3 but upon looking up some info about wiring it appears that they came with 4, can anyone confirm or deny this?
im wanting to re-do the switch situation in my fake electric XII.
oh and if anyone can find a wiring diagram for a 3 pos roto switch that would be awsome, im looking right now but can't find much.
here is a pic of the beast.

Nice. Did you build that (apart from the original neck)?

ok,
the neck is a villager neck that i traded a fellow for.
i made the body and guard, and painted it 3 times, then reliced it pretty heavily(you would too if you had a 66 neck that was already worn in)
the pups are stealth style gibson humbuckers from a mid 70's dot.
the knobs are from the same dot.
everything else is repro.
right now it has a vintage kay toggle switch but i would like to go more..... vintage looking and add a 3 way rotary that i had but i cannot for the life of me find a wiring diagram for the thing.
that pic is WAY blury and washed out, here are some better ones, from one extreme to the other.

Cool man. Can't wait to see the finished guitar. I'm looking for a XII myself.

it is done, and i have been playing it quite a bit, but the kay switch is too dirty and i can't be asked to clean it, so i would rather throw in a 3 way toggle.
try picking up a villager neck on the bay, they go for fairly cheap, i think if i added everything correctly it cost me about 350-375 to build.

Oh crazy. Are the pickups under the guard? That's not a bad price.

did they come with a 4 position roto switch?
Yes.

I don't own one myself (I'm looking though), but The rotary was wired with these pickup options IIRC:
1. Bridge
2. Neck
3. Neck+Bridge
4. N+B out of phase.

You can use a regular 3P4T rotary to achieve that.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?
