Hot Pickups for Jazzmaster Project

Post by phread » Wed Dec 03, 2008 6:49 pm

So I am piecing a pre-CBS Jazzmaster together using my original body and pickguard, (the rest of the guitar was stolen with
with a different body), a 64 neck, a PatPend tremolo and bridge, and even original controls.  My only issue is that I'm wanting
to use it to play more heavy rock and am looking for pickups with a bit more output.  My favorite pickups are Gibson P-90s and
they have what I view as the perfect balance between output and tone.

Now here is my dilema...

I see that Lollar, Fralin, and Duncan all make Jazzmaster replacement pickups.  I'm interested in the *hot* or high output versions
of these pickups and was wondering if anyone has compared the Hot Fralins versus the Duncan Hots or Quarter Pounders, etc...

Again, I'm looking for something gain and potentially tone-wise is equivalent to a P-90, but don't worry, I'm not going to route the
body!

I would appreciate anyone that has compared any of these to help educate me on my decision...

Cheers,

Wow!  Thanks for the tip!  His Jazzmaster P-90 should do just the trick!

Cheers,

I was going to see if he can wind the bridge JM-V pickup a little hotter if I ordered a pair.

Has anyone else done this?
Make like a tree... and fuck off.
