Re: Coming soon: THE JAGUAR X!!!
That's not as exciting as was hoping but it's still super cool.

Re: Coming soon: THE JAGUAR X!!!
It'll be a helluva lot more usable for stage purposes, which was the plan. Plus, I now have a future Jag build (with a pile o' Teisco pickups) on the horizon.noisepunk wrote:That's not as exciting as was hoping but it's still super cool.
I'm happy!

Re: Coming soon: THE JAGUAR X!!!
So a little bird (that looked a lot like Paul Rhoney) told me earlier today that the JAGUAR X is nearly ready, and should get shipped out THIS WEEK!
To say I'm excited would be a gross understatement.
Expect to see pics here soon (Paul?).

Re: Coming soon: THE JAGUAR X!!!
Sure, I'll get some pics up here tomorrow when there's day light out. My camera is useless indoors.
But I just strung it up and played around on it for a little bit. It's not staying in tune worth a damn, which I suppose mostly has to do with new strings. I'm tweaking it here and there every little while in between working on other stuff. I had a sitar-like buzz going on on one of the sympathetic strings, but a little graphite in the nut slot, and raising the bridge helped that. I just deepened the other slot on the bridge saddle to compensate.

Re: Coming soon: THE JAGUAR X!!!
Oh, I forgot that you don't have much experience with double-strung guitars. You know how it can be kind of critical to stretch strings on a regular guitar? For whatever reason, it seems to be like exponentially more so on 12-strings (or similar). YEARS of experience on this subject (my second-ever guitar 25 years ago was a Hagstrom XII!).stereordinary wrote:Sure, I'll get some pics up here tomorrow when there's day light out. Yeah, I guess so! I suppose I'll start yanking on those strings a little to try and break 'em in a bit.

Re: Coming soon: THE JAGUAR X!!!
I hadn't really thought about it before, but I may also have to find some heavier-gauge strings (for all but the low E and A, of course). Shorter-scale guitars always like bigger strings, and a 12 (or 10) would be no exception. Hell, I might even shell out some real coin and buy a set of Pyramids. They're supposed to have a really long useful life, so it might not be that awful of an expense.stereordinary wrote:Yeah, I guess so! I'd recommend a big ass string tree too. And I don't normally use string trees at all, but this thing needs it.

Hmmm... like one of those EXII ones? I wonder if the one on THE MONGOOSE (aka WONKYMASTER, aka METAPHOR) needs to be there. I'll ask Andrew.stereordinary wrote:I'd recommend a big ass string tree too. And I don't normally use string trees at all, but this thing needs it.
Angela instruments has them too (NOS).

Hmm... that would probably work. It would look more authentically Fender as well. As opposed to one of the Floyd Rose bars or something.

Okay cool, I'll get it installed before I ship the guitar. Hopefully that can still be this week.
