Re: Jay's Jazzblaster project
So I got my neck... a Musikraft from Jamerson Guitars on eBay (it's the same company) and it doesn't even come close to fitting the neck pocket on my CIJ body. What's up with that? It says in the auction 2 3/16 Standard Strat shape. Is 2 /3/16 not a typical size for a Fender neck pocket. My CIJ body is about 2 3/8". This is really frustrating. Other then the size the quality seems great FWIW. Fret job looks good and the nitro finish is very nicely done. Feels almost exactly like a nice vintage neck. Too bad it doesn't fit.

Re: Jay's Jazzblaster project
Well, CIJ and American/Vintage are definitely not simply interchangeable. I figured out it's not the neck though. The body has a wider pocket closer to 2 3/8" (about 60mm) when the American standard is 2 3/16". So I guess I have two options, buy a CIJ neck when one pops up on eBay (one sold today for $200
) or get a different body to match the neck. I think I'd prefer the latter as I'm certain I could get my money back out the body and get a different one... enormous? The neck also has not had a fret dress and needs a nut installed. Cutting a nut is no problem but I don't have tools for a fret dress so that's another expense to consider. :-\

Re: Jay's Jazzblaster (now Jazzmaster) project
Update on my former Jazzblaster now Jazzmaster project. I've long since picked up a black AVRI body, a set of AVRI pickups on eBay (for $60 yeah!), and a great possibly original black guard thanks to Orang Goreng so I am now very close to completing the nonemoreblack beauty. All I need now is a maple neck and a couple small parts. I'm missing 1 pickup screw and a pickguard shield and need a late 60's/70's block text decal. That's gonna be the trickiest piece I think. Only thing that bugs right now is the pickup covers are a bit too purple looking compared to the rest of the guitar. They're made of a funny sort of plastic.

Jay:
Did you have any issues with the Musikraft neck in the AVRI body/neck pocket? I also thought that the CIJ/MIJ bodies are slightly wider at the neck pocket route.
Just curious - that all black JM is evil looking!

The Musikraft neck fits perfectly. Not too tight but no slop either. The problem with the neck is that it seems to twist a little if I tune it too sharp on the high side (I like to tune the high strings up sometimes) and the holes for the keys weren't drilled with the proper alignment so the strings angle downward to the keys.

This is weird: I just measured the Heel of my JM neck. It is 5,35cm ( 6.0325"= 5.55625 cm)
So it's narrower than the standard necks !
Maybe I didn't measured it right ?

This is sort of a David Gilmour-ish Jazzmaster, eh?

Well, sort of...

Actually you did the math the wrong way around - 5.35cm is just a little over 2".k o y l wrote: This is weird: I just measured the Heel of my JM neck. It is 5,35cm ( 6.0325"= 5.55625 cm)

A "standard" Strat neck pocket measures 2 3/16" (2.185 decimal), or 5.5cm.

Ok. I must find a inches to decimals conversion table.. I had 2 3/16" = 2.1875 decimal

I think it looks great. We all need a bit of David Gilmour influence in our playing. His strat is rather nice as well.

It's one reason why strats are good.StevenO wrote:RumorsOFsurF wrote: Man, that thing is evil! I love it!
