Re: Modding my Jazz Bass... Step #2: gathering parts + wiring question.

Can someone take a look at this, please? :)

http://www.enregistrersous.com/images2/ ... 211332.gif

It seems to work, no dead position or buzz or short-circuit as far as I've seen. I've been following the lines again and again, trying to see if it works for every single positions, and my eyes are getting sore. I need another point of view. :D Thanks.

edit: but the neck pickup only can't work if the pickups are in series. But a friend of mine worked it out, see below!

Sorry for the bad Paint skills, but this one works. If someone could read it and confirm it is actually working, it'd be awesome, thanks. :)

EDIT: clearer, less parkinsonian schematic (phase switch is upside down for legibility). :P

Strings received:

Got them from Thomann, and they overpacked it as usual: it came in a large box filled with a bunch of those air-filled packs thingies, and cardboard. And the box itself was stapled before being taped. ;D

I've just realised I did't yet put pictures of the bass as it is now... ::)

This is how it was when it was stock: Image
Then I changed the knobs for witch-hats (note the fingerrest): Image Image
I did consider the Jaco mod, but didn't like it: Image
Didn't like the tortoise much, and got an aftermarket: Image

It was much better, but the guard didn't fit (well, I could have made it fit by filing it), and the white was too bright (the reason I chose a sandwiched cream ply instead). But it definitely sold me about the blackness. So, for now, it's exactly like in the second row of pics... Waiting to be pimped.

Looks great! - will be really cool with Black B+B maple neck. Really nice 70's colour scheme (burst, black guard, Black B+B)  :-*

If it was me I wouldn't put the BadAss on it and put a F bridge cover on instead.......
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Thanks. There should be no problem, it's been tested on some software by an electronician (does that word exist? Someone who makes circuit boards and stuff, anyway!) to be sure, and all positions worked: http://www.formulef1.com/beel1/pixs/grodonne/

C is for the bridge pickup
M is for the neck pickup
P is phase
H is out of phase
S is series
P is parallel

I don't like the bridge... I know it's period-correct and so on, but it always looked like it'd break easily to me. Not that I'm mistreating it, but for no real reason, for me it looks cheap and unreliable. I first considered a Mustang Bass bridge (my favourite bass bridge, design-wise), but it's hard to find, and I would have needed to drill the body as it's string-through, so I went for a Badass instead (got a good deal on BAII with grooved saddles, it helped), which was my 2nd on my fav bridges list anyway.

Doesn't BadAss need additional routing?

They certanly did - I have a friend that has a Vintage 60's P-bass that's been destroyed because of a BadAss bridge installation done in the f**king 80's (or something).

I'm a Bass NooB though, so I could be wrong.

It depends on the model, I think. The BadAss II is a direct replacement for Fender (top loading). The III is the same except it's string-through.

When installing my new neck, I'll have to get the tuners off the old one. The screws are in good shape, I guess (=hope= it'll be ok... But I mainly worry about the bushings: do they come easily? Or should I better leave them where they are, and get new ones to install on the new neck? I'll have an order to place at GPR next week anyway...

Thanks. :)

Some parts arrived this morning:

Image

Pickup cover and '62 control plate, a jack, cap for the tone, cap and resistor for treble bleed, and some washers to fit my push(s)/pull(s) (I don't know wher to put the plural, if there's any :P). I still have a few things to order... But I can't start the assembling before I get my pickguard, somewhen in March, anyway.

I've always found bushings come out quite easily. If you put something like the smooth end of a drill-bit in a vice you can push the headstock against it, keeping an eye out for any problems as the bushing comes out.
