Hey Paul, I've no clear idea of how you'd approach it in an economical way; but if you could devise a plan to offer the 6 to 10 conversion for JAGMASTERS, I'm guessing you could get a fair amount of business from it.

Not too many guys are willing to sacrifice their Jaguars (like I did), but Jagmasters? Of course, that means that if you did come up with a method, you could use it on Strats and such as well...

Jagmasters wouldn't be too hard, as long as people were willing to sacrifice their trem and original finish. At least that's what I would recommend, blocking off the whole trem cavity, and putting a Gotoh twelve string bridge there, then giving the whole thing a refinish.

Well yeah, but I meant sparing all that stuff. You're talking a $500 (or more) job. I'm talking about coming up with a system that would utilize the stock trem (difficult, no doubt- but you're a DAMN resourceful cat!).

It's worth some thought. Sookwinder made a hybrid Strat trem/Gotoh twelve-string thing on his hollowbody Strat XII project. As I recall there was quite a bit of milling involved which is way beyond my machine capabilities right now.

I know I intend to post some as soon as I get my hot little hands on it. Of course, Paul is welcome to post something first if he so desires.

P.S. If you like FREAK FENDERS and haven't logged on recently search WONKYMASTER!

Wow! Really great result. The headstock with all the tuners look really cool and black guards on burst is a personal fav!
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

stereordinary wrote:...lacquering the bridge...

Well, because I sanded and polished the top side and saddles of the bridge, all the plating is gone. All there is is raw metal and it turns black with just a small amount of playing on it (assuming there's at least a little palm muting going on, but even if there isn't). It's practically a dirt magnet. So just a thin layer of lacquer keeps them looking shiny at least for a while longer. Eventually the lacquer will wear away and it will turn black, and it will need to be polished or replaced. But I wasn't about to put a 12" radius bridge on a 7.25" fingerboard radius guitar. I know lots of people have done it, but I want a better setup than that. Plus, it makes the whole top surface of the bridge really smooth and comfortable.
Two words: brush plating.

Before Paul came up with his brilliantly elegant (and beautiful) headstock design, I almost went with a 9-string myself. I even sent Paul pics of old Vox and Framus 9's. This wonderful headstock will accommodate either, so I say GO FOR IT!

I think it's probably high time for Paul to make another stainless steel plate order anyway, given the fact that I've seen a few posts looking for custom stuff lately. Paul?
