Re: MOTORIK II - basecoat on

This was the penultimate clear coat - ran out on the next one. Just before this one I wet-sanded with naphtha and 600 grit to get rid of as much of the orange peel as I dared.

Lucky spider's leg - every finish should have one:

Re: MOTORIK II - clearcoats and spider leg done
That spider leg makes it the classiest build on the board !
(Let's not forget that somewhere in the world lives a 7 legs spider)

Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

At least you didn't get as much trouble with spiders as Ibanez did in the 80's:

Re: MOTORIK II - clearcoats and spider leg done
let me guess, The Leg (probably the most talked about dismembered spider's leg in the world at this time) is right in the middle of somewhere that won't be covered by the pickguard/hardware?
If so that's unlucky...
...if we take the disabled spider out of the picture...
...and other bad things...

Re: MOTORIK II - clearcoats and spider leg done
I'm not sure 'disabled' is quite the word I'd use...
And yes, of course it's right in the middle of the back - half way through all my spraying everything in my shed got covered in tiny baby spiders, so it's a miracle there aren't more. I tried to sand it out but it was too close to the metallic basecoat to dig out without consequences. Looks big in the pic, but it's only about 3mm long so it's fine.

I wonder if that's one of the legs of the spider from mars.

That's a weaksauce response to a wry Bowie reference, Ben. Better luck next time!theworkoffire wrote:You have a spider in your arse??

Back on topic anyway, is it just the photography or is the finish significantly less green now? Looks like it had a shade of battleship gray mixed in.

Re: MOTORIK II - clearcoats and spider leg done
Yeah, I added a load of white pigment and some black lacquer here to grey it down. It's actually a bit greener than it looks in the pics, at least on my screen, but it's nothing like the cow-pleaser it was.
