Re: Starcaster Style Project
The tung oil was taking too long and not giving me a flat surface when I sanded, so I decided to try Minwax Poly spray and see how it works. One coat in so far.

I like your makeshift hanger! Clever.
This thing is gonna look so good when it's done.

Re: Starcaster Style Project
Thanks! So far I am not a fan of the Minwax Poly. The thing keeps clogging while spraying.

Although it does dry fast and it doesn't smell much.

Re: Starcaster Style Project
What about putting a can of the non-aerosol Poly into a spray gun? Is that possible, or do you need special types of finishes to go through the spray guns?

Re: Starcaster Style Project
I don't have a spray gun. I am at the mercy of the spray cans. I have never had Deft clog up or have issues like that. I have had it with two different poly manufacturers though.... Frustrating that I can't just have one good product. LOL

Re: Starcaster Style Project
That would drive me nuts too. I'm assuming as handy as you are, you've got an air compressor at home? I picked up a cheapo spray gun at Harbor Freight for like $60. I was recommended a cheapo from Lowes by Texas Toast, who's finishes are glassy and amazing when polished and done. I decided to pick up an air gun so I wouldn't have to be limited by aerosols. With as many guitars as you build or refinish, maybe it's worth a look into?
Starcaster is looking great by the way Chris!!

Re: Starcaster Style Project
Thanks! I have a compressor and spray gun, but I haven't used it. My garage is so full of crap that I don't have room currently for a spray area.

Re: Starcaster Style Project
I learned that the spray nozzle is what sucks with these cans. I pulled one off of a Duplicolor Perfect Match can that I had in the garage and it has sprayed three coats without clogging. Figured I would pass that along in case others find the same issue.

Re: Starcaster Style Project
Clear is done on the headstock. I will wait a week to wetsand it and then about a month to make sure the lacquer is hard.
