Thanks that makes me feel a little better. I might route then to 1/2” or so just to be safe

Yeah, I was thinking about this... I'm going to have to think about this also with my build. I'm going to do it low enough that the JM pickups would be flush with the top of the body (or maybe pickguard) when bottomed out. That should give enough range to lower the neck pickup as much as you'd need to balance with the bridge pickup.

Applied two more regular coats, two slurry coats (applying Tru-oil with sandpaper), knocked back any rough spots, and did one more coat for a total of 9 so far. It's starting to look pretty sharp!

Looking good!
I'm digging the neck heel area. What's going on there? Is the heel thinner? By how much?

Thanks! I sanded down the heel area by about 3/8"ish to where the heel is a about 7/8" thick using an orbital sander. I'll be using neck ferrules/bushings instead of a plate. I find it's a little comfier that way

I think I'm at around 19 coats now and it's really starting to glow. I might throw on a few more just for kicks, but I don't think its going to get much better than this.

Routed the pickup routes a little deeper, painted shielding paint on the cavities, and now drilling for the pickguard. The neck in the picture is not the final neck, just one from from another build that I used to make sure that everything fit the way that it should.

Did some wiring today; wired up most things other than the fuzz circuit, which I'm still waiting on in the mail. I had considered leaving one of the rhythm circuit pots off or as a dummy, but decided to make use of it as a bass cut control since they go well with fuzz.

Hahaha I'm planning on throwing a Colortone Fuzz Box/ "one knob fuzz" clone on the remaining rhythm circuit knob because fuzz is love and why the heck not. Ordered the parts from Tayda.

If you do a google search there's also a lot of strip board layouts available for this one since it's a fairly simple build
