Very nice looking!!!
I'm sorry for you about the woodfiller, but wouldn't it become less visible with some clearcoat ontop?

I think it would look like wood filler with clearcoat on it to be honest. I need to paint it a color to match the wood then clear coat it. That's a lot more work then I want to get into since I don't really love this neck. It's not bad, but it's bulkier then I had hoped and the damage has really soured me.

With a maple fretboard that'll look strange IMO....

Yeah, I meant that I would paint the filler spots to match the maple. I've seen black matching heads on maple necks and it's okay but I prefer it like this. What I really need is a better maple neck with holes that didn't chip during drilling.

... I'd just put a Chrome pickup in the neck position (Filtertron, FWR or PAF)

Where did you get the 70's decal? I've been looking for them lately.

I got them from Nick at Vintage-Mojo. He had to take his site down though. I heard there was another place to get them tho I don't recall where it was. Maybe another member can find it or remembers the address.

Now put together. I had to bore out the tuning key holes for F Keys (repro are 7/16" it seems) and the low E and A holes (pun intended) chipped. So there's some lovely not so well matching wood filler hanging out from under the ferrules. Also, for the second time in as many necks I had a screw break off in the headstock—this time for the string tree —despite having drilled a pilot hole and I was able to cover about 90% of the damage by screwing a new hole just next to the occupied one. Still, this whole thing has been infuriating. Never again. Otherwise I'm happy with the way the guitar looks, the way it sounds unplugged, and I'm looking forward to getting it wired up this week. Oh, and the logo is photoshopped. I'm waiting for the repro to arrive still.
That looks so sick! Can you please go over how you photoshopped the decal? Did you have it scanned from an original?

It's from a scan of an original provided by forum member luau IIRC. I just cut it out, scaled and rotated it to match.

The maple neck and the black on black just works together so well. Thanks for posting that pic, it has given me a few new ideas for my project JM.
