I was going to get the body done today, but I hit a snag and had to redo some stuff... When I joined the boards to make the blank, I made sure they didn't have any gaps, but I didn't bother to make sure the angles of the joined faces would add up to 180 degrees and create a perfectly flat blank...
Image

In the past, I might have tried to build with that anyways, and try to sand the bump out of the joint. But now that I'm trying to get good at this, I took a stab at joining it again. If I screwed it up, the main piece is plenty wide to do a one piece Mustang (and I owe a Mustang body to Keegan), so I wasn't too stressed about this. Worst case scenario, I'd go buy more wood tomorrow morning...

I pushed the blank over my table saw right where the crooked joint was. I used my square to check the angle I was planing the edge this time...
Image

It worked.
Image

So now it's glueing up again. I'll probably start the body tomorrow and finish it on wednesday. Or start it wednesday and finish it saturday... I don't control my schedule; SHE does :squint:

Hey Steve, do you want a gut cut on this? How bout an arm contour? And what positions do you want the knobs/switch on the plate (I'm gonna have to drill the plate for the switch) to be arranged?

Andrew, looking good! :w00t: I'd like both a gut cut and arm contour- it could probably stand to lose the weight!

I like the knob/switch/knob arrangement I did on the latest photoshop image.

Man, I'm psyched! ;D

P.S. I'm thinking just stick that chrome "finger rest" between the "woulda-been bridge cover" and the bridge.

Out of sheer morbid curiosity- what's the total length of that bad girl? Something tells me she WON'T be neck-heavy! ;)

And how's about a mock-up pic without the chrome covers too?

So, you might have noticed the gap between the back of the neck pocket, and the oddly-shaped heel. If this was my guitar I'd leave it there and claim I did it on purpose for truss access, but since Steve has been SO effin' on top of his game with this build (sent me EVERY part immediately and hasn't shown a sign of even one excuse or problem) I thought I'd make this build my best yet ;)

I started off with a pair of templates, clamped and double-stick taped in place, and I routed out the area between the neck pickup and the neck pocket.
Image

Then I traced the heel onto some MDF and cut/sanded a template to make the plug dealie by flush-trimming a piece of scrap poplar that had been planed to 5/8".
Image

I trimmed the end off of the scraplar to make the plug deal. It is so snug! I planned to epoxy some gaps, if there were any, but I even need to. This fit is flawless ;D
Image

Fits like a glove. After I cut the pickguard, using the pocket to shape part of the pickguard, I'm going to trim out a truss adjustment hole (seen sketched on here) with my router...
Image

Now it's all glueing up. I'll probably do the test string and pickguard tomorrow, if not, for sure on Monday.
Image

See that hideous blemish on the heel? The bearing exploded on my router bit right there. If it happened any where else I'd have to fill it, but where it is I can just sand the heel down probably even 1/16" to fix it...

Dude, you are ON FIRE! I'm more psyched than I can verbalize. :w00t:

BTW- The 2nd pickup cover will be coming (to me- I ordered a couple of items not related to this build too) next week, and I'll forward it to you ASAP.

I'm gonna have a full-on chub the first time I see this thing painted. BTW- Have you figured out how to get/use the fabled DuPont #2371?

ANDREW IS MY GOD!!!!! ALL HAIL!!!!

I don't know what this DuPont business is, but I'm planning on using Reranch... I don't want to order the paint until after I know the prep work is flawless; I always tend to get too excited and spray before it's totally ready...

I know you're going with Reranch- I was just being cagey and seeing how many of our "vintage buffs" would recognize the intended finish color by the original Manufacture's part code. ;)

Since you've tackled the curved neck joint issue so capably, I have just one question: What are we gonna use THIS one for?

And then what to do with the 4 (FOUR!) 24" scale necks I've now managed to amass!
