This really looks fantastic! That's a great color for a JM and I can't wait to see it when you're done. I like your process of handling the metallic color coats. I always do it with the body hanging, but I might try your method.
Do you ever run into any issues going over the acrylic duplicolor with nitro clear so soon? I'm probably far too cautious, but I always wait a few weeks between color coats and starting with the clear when the color is acrylic and the clear is nitro. I've heard horror stories about reactions between the two different types of lacquer when applying nitro over acrylic too soon, so I've never risked it. But it would be nice to shave a few weeks off the painting process.

Thank you for the kind words. I started spraying clear about two hours after the color. The duplicolor is acrylic lacquer (different from acrylic paint) and I have never had any issues with undesirable reactions of it with nitro lacquer. Enamel will react with nitro though no matter how long you wait - learned this the hard way while finishing a pedal enclosure.

The color is Medium Wedgewood Metallic and it's a Ford color.PixMix wrote:I'll post that info as soon as I get home from work.gutter rock wrote:What is the name of that duplicolor color? Nice! That is the same color I bought! So now I know what it will look like! Thanks! I am still thinking of going more toward gray though. I really want as close to charcoal frost as I can but there seems to be a lot of shades of charcoal when I google images of it.

I should take some photos of the body on the shade too. This is all photographed on a very sunny summer day. Indoors it's less blue and more dark dull-blue, but definitely not charcoal frost. But, yes there's a ton of grey variations out there and few of them (I am talking about car colors) look like the aged charcoal frost with yellowed clear coat. Wish I had more time and 3 or 4 bodies to paint all at once.

Yeah it may be too blue for what I am aiming for. I bought a couple of duplicolor grays as well, need to shoot some on some scrap wood and make a decision. Your guitar looks great though! I have enough blue guitars as it is so I am thinking more gray now for sure. Big thanks to this thread, tired of agonizing about it.

Re: Squier JMJM Refinish
Not quite done with the clear lacquer, but had no time to spray today. Hopefully this week I'll unload another 8-10 oz and that will do. In the meantime I couldn't resist but take some late night photos testing the pick guards. The mint one (not showing the color properly) is one of those inexpensive notorious easter egg green ones that has spent a week under the hot early September sun, and actually it has lost its yucky green color and has faded a bit, but I am hoping for it to start to yellow and then it might be a good one tho use. While the lacquer dries, this pickguard shall remain outside on the sun and other elements - on the south side of the house. BTW, I am not considering the swap the places of tone and volume pots.

Yeah, testing is the way to go. Nothing beats that. Btw, the gray I tested (on page 1) is called dark Shadow Gray, also a Ford color.gutter rock wrote:Yeah it may be too blue for what I am aiming for. That would look great! Definitively thought about this last night as I was shooting the photos. Might need to get a set of black covers.Deed_Poll wrote:Thiss_mcsleazy wrote:mint with black pickup covers/knobs
Pups are here! I was able to find a second-hand but new (never installed) set for a good price.
