Isn't it a bitch to be a tool junkie? I like mine so much I've been tempted to get a second one. My wife used to cringe when I'd mention Snap-On casually in a sentence.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 9:07 pmInteresting. That's almost exactly how I use my combination squares, and what I use them for mostly. Still, I do love tools, so I'll likely grab oneRgand wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 8:49 pmOne example is laying out a row of holes a given distance from an edge. Set the distance from the edge with one side, mark that distance in and flip it over to mark the centerline with the long side. There are many uses once you get used to thinking of picking it up. I find myself gravitating to it for most 'square' needs.

Been working on a ric 4000 copy. Here's a mock-up with a ibanez humbucker for now. I'm waiting for retrovibe to come back from holidays so I can order some pickups.
I've also been struggling to share pictures from Flickr. I couldn't find a URL that the forum liked for inserting images. Can someone who uses that site please show me how to do it? Thanks

I put images I want to post on Imgur. That works great. They even give you the proper code to insert into the post.Insomnicide wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:34 pmhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/183246420 ... /lightbox/

Took me a while to find that pesky little button too. Click on your image to open it on Flickr and you'll see three little icons at the bottom right corner of the view. The middle one is a little arrow. Click on that, go to 'BB Code' in the little window that opens. Select a size and copy the URL and you're doneInsomnicide wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:34 pmhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/183246420 ... /lightbox/

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
It can be, definitely. In the last few months, I've bought a few tools that I don't really need (not yet anyway) because I want a mostly complete set of things that I think I will use at some point. I'm trying to make my cleat walls and not have to rebuild things that often, just because I bought something new that I needed. At the moment, I'm looking for socket sets of the funky sockets (Torx-bit sockets, Allen-wrench sockets, 8-point square drive sockets) before starting to make my socket organizers for the wall. I totally get the flinching from Snap-On being mentioned. They make great stuff, but that stuff isn't cheap by any means.

By the way, I've had some bizarre stuff on my bench recently - non-guitar stuff!
Oh the things one is commissioned to make when one has a few woodworking tools
And this is turning into a coffee table. 70+ years old curly French oak rescued from the closed-down sawmill. Possibly the hardest, heaviest piece of oak I've ever had in my stash.

I've never had the desire to accentuate my home with images or silhouettes of the state I live in, but from a woodworking point of view, that's pretty cool Epizootics!!

That's the kind of stuff that you can only get away with when you don't live there I guess Doing the same thing with the outline of France would feel wrong, wrong, wrong. My wife is a Dallas Cowboys fan though - I'm more of a Packers person but the state of Wisconsin is far less recognizable once laid out onto woodShadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 9:27 pmI've never had the desire to accentuate my home with images or silhouettes of the state I live in, but from a woodworking point of view, that's pretty cool Epizootics!!
I treated Texas like I would any other flat piece of wood with a complicated outline - I made a template! I can make as many of it as I want! All of my next guitar projects will be Texas-shaped!

I could almost see it for a restaurant, but I agree.epizootics wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 9:39 pmThat's the kind of stuff that you can only get away with when you don't live there I guess
Wisconsin isn't too bad, once you see the Door peninsula on the northeast side. Wisconsin is almost offset, and would make a more comfortable guitar than Texasepizootics wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 9:39 pmDoing the same thing with the outline of France would feel wrong, wrong, wrong. It's Tasmanian Myrtlewood. I thought it was Jarrah at first, but pop identified it for me.
My pop has got a large collection of timber that's been drying under the house for a few decades. I'm hoping to slowly take a chunk out of it.

I envy y'all from Down Under, there seem to be a nice array of Australian hardwoods you can chose from for your builds...Insomnicide wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 10:23 pmThanks!

I've been doing the same with my dad's wood stash, there's something nice about using wood that's been selected & cut by family members. I think my dad's relieved to know that all the leftovers from his cabinet making days is not going to go to waste, too.
Keep it going!

Most of Australias native trees are eucalypts, which are quite dense hardwoods. I love working with it, but it's hell on your tools.
I'm hoping to clean up my pops workshop so I can use it for more building in the future. He's crammed it full of way too much crap, most of it has nothing to do with woodworking unfortunately. Hopefully a lot of it can be relocated elsewhere or sent to the tip.
