Nolan, I'm sure you'd agree with me when I say this...
THESE GUITARS LOOK AS THOUGH THEY ARE JUST BEGGING TO BE PLAYED!

Re: New Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster
This has got to be the best replicas I have seen ever.
Dano - for info here are some nice pics of my 'real' 1965 Tele which was recently restored back to it's original Firemist Gold (yep some idiot stripped the original gold off the body, dug a hole in the guitar and fitted a dumbucker pickup! They destroyed te original nitrate guard as well.
But just to show you how close you are getting look at the patina on the neck

Re: New Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster
thankyou! I have a white one from the same year as well. I got lucky twice in a year - the gold one was sold in a shop in Edinburgh for not a great dea of cash as it looked ghastly. Here is a pic of the body prior to the route repair and refin. You can clearly see the firemist gold and white undercoat. The shop was insisting it was Lake Placid Blue but that was just one of the many colours it had been..... blue, black, red. When I saw it I just thought 'oh my God green nitrate guard L series Spagetti logo Tele' cos I'm such a nerd.' To anyone else it as crappy overpriced vintage junk. But I had a vision!!!
Nice routing don't you think?

Re: New Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster
that's a beautiful tele, Marc
I have several old teles myself that I use for refernce - as well as a huge "Wall Of Inspiration" in front of my workbench - essentially beautiful hi-res shots of the best of the 50s / 60s fenders
and a big note to " GO SLOW " ( my wife's advise - she's usually right )

Re: New Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster
the paint process - I spend a few days. Do the grain filler on day , sand it and do the sand N Sealer the next day - then sand that and shoot all the color and top coat in about an hour - no sanding between coats. Then wait and wait and wait - about 4 weekskle wrote:But....you're quite fast, as it seemsDanocaster wrote: and a big note to " GO SLOW " ( my wife's advise - she's usually right )

while I wait for a bunch of bodies to dry , I work on my necks and hardware (which takes a while doing it my way - NO muratic acid )
Once the bodies are ready to be sanded and buffed - I can get a guitar done in a day. But the whole process is about 6 weeks or so at this point

Dano,
yes I noticed your hardware is very nicely aged.... with vinegar fumes it is so easy to completley strip the nickel layer exposing the copper plate which I see your's do not.
Good work and it looks like you have some great 'trade secrets'!! You put Mr Nash to shame.

Once again, you've topped yourself!
That's got to be the most vintage-looking new guitar I've ever seen!

Re: New Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster
thanks guys - it's actually hard to send this one off
it just sounds CRAZY great in all 3 position
Pickups are Lollars ( the same wind GVCG uses ) and sound amazing
the body is a 1 pc ultralite swamp ash and the finish is actually a little transparent but the outside pics seem to hide that. In person, the grain is clearly visible on the top and back

Re: New Lake Placid Blue Jazzmaster
OK.. here''s another
This is a wedding gift for my best friend- LA based producer, Bob Hartry
he was very particular about the color of fiesta red. He did NOT want a "stock" / fresh fiesta red. It had to be a faded and slightly "orange'd" fiesta red
He loves it - or at least the pictures !! But it sounds SO great that I'm selling my beloved '72 strat and am building one for myself -!! With hand wound strat pickups by Nick Sorenson, this thing KILLS my '72
