Re: JM Partsmaster build [update]
1st question-
who is this band?
2nd question-
solid maple, one piece neck, or glued on fretboard? that can make a difference.

The Cure, a long time ago. It's some TV performance; I guess they couldn't get Robert Smith a Bass VI in time, so he's playing a P-bass similar to Simon Gallup's. I think this is from the "Faith" period.

Or the frets can make a difference - the size, how well they are seated and whether they are stainless steel or nickel etc. And the type of truss rod can be a factor.

Re: JM Partsmaster build [update]
so :
- both are on piece mapple, no glued fretboard
- the strat one has medium jumbo frets, allparts has vintage (thin) frets
- the allpart one seats better in the neck pocket but doesn't sounds better
- both have skunk stripe, but the stat one has the trussrod at the heel, whereas the allparts has a 70s bullet trussrod.
I wasn't expecting such a change in ton between the two.

I don't know :-\
even an open string sounds different
I think it's more to do with the wood...

Wow, that new neck looks great! I wouldn't judge the sound until you have everything wired up.
If you still don't like it, swap it back...

I won't change the wiringRumorsOFsurF wrote: Wow, that new neck looks great! I wouldn't judge the sound until you have everything wired up.

I just wait for the gold guard, and I'll put a fake tone pot (not wired)
even if it looks better with this neck, I think I'll swap it back for the Strat neck
and use the 70s style one for my up-coming offset tele project.

Re: JM Partsmaster build [finished!]
pheewwwwwwwww! I'm SO glad you got it .... Finally! the next time i ship parts, it'll be with a tracking #!
i think the thin alu guard might have a subtle change in sound, while my thick Scot guard has a more noticeable effect on the sound.
nevertheless, the guitar looks great! congrats!
