i still haven't decided on the colour. firemist gold, inca silver.... i keep coming back to black too.
but have started with getting it ready for lacquer. getting a nice level surface with BIN shellac-based primer :)

and my neck and harness will be in Canada next week (FINALLY!!!)

Alright, some progress!

body is nicely primed and faults sanded level. Now WHAT bloody colour to paint it???????

my guard, harness and (Fender CS) neck arrived. This neck is beautiful! about a 10" radius, i think.

of the four pickups, the 1st neck one is dead. crap. the guard is a little buckled, but it should probably screw down flat. and some but not too much shrinkage.

the CS tele screws were a little short, so i went to a specialized hardware store and got 12X 4-40 philips screws. they are a little LONG, so i'll have some adjusting to do.

have to choose machine heads, and a colour.....

Whatever color you pick, make sure the headstock matches the body! :?

Nice!

Sorry to hear about the dead neck pickup. My neck pup was dead also but I had Curtis rewind it and he did quite a good job, so I recommend having him do it.

:)
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Todd, I know a guy right here in Quebec who could do a wonderful job with that pickup. He's the one who reconstructed and did the new bobbin for my 1959 Gretsch pickup. He's reliable, quick and talented.

I'll send you a PM.

Seing the pearl guard now, I think this XII would be absolutely wonderful in black with matching headstock and pearl guard.

Charcoal Frost would look delicious, I think.

Beauty, eh? You'll all think I'm nuts, but I really liked the finish this thing had when when you started!

mongoose: i didn't hate the red either. but it was badly done and i wanted the guitar to look somewhat original.

David: excellent idea. i think i've heard of Lauzon before.

so no-one says: "olympic white!"?

i say definitely NOT OLY... I just don't like pearl & white together. It clashes too much in my eyes.

I really like the Teal example that was posted above ^

This is great, imo. I think this is ice blue:

Bummer about the screws! Just cut the long ones down with a screw-cutter or place a custom order with your hardware shop.

Also JT, i think you need to find another bridge piece... the bottom plate that goes under the height-adjustment 'block'. I don't really know what it looks like but I'm sure you can fake it with something else.

Any XII owners care to snap a pic of that part?

i believed that the CS tele design wasn't going to be identical, so i expected some issues. the replacement screws i got were great. the originals were made in the US and had an imperial thread. easy-peasy to replace. yeah, i'll cut them to proper length.
Helloid on RR forum rebuilt a butchered XII and i think he skipped that part. actually, i think in the 90's XII strats that part was very slim or omitted. i am not too worried about it. i might have someone local machine me a piece. here it is in the right bottom hand corner of the image:
