I've looked everywhere and I can't seem to find one anywhere. I'm trying to find one similar, if not exactly like this.

They're a bit pricey, but www.tone-guard.com should be able to easily make one for you. As for what is pictured, is it possible that's just a Squier J Mascis pickguard that's been modified to accommodate a humbucker + mounting ring?

Highly doubt, given that there is not rhythm section and it doesn't look patchwork.

I'll check them out. Thanks!

Does an aluminum pickguards really change the tone at all? I can see that it would help to cancel hum.

Lots of people feel that you lose some high end, as you do with anything that increases shielding, essentially.

That pickguard is definitely custom, as it has no rhythm circuit. Plus, PAF mounting rings do not fully cover a JM pickup rout (primarily the ends and the half-circle tabs of the covers).

Tone Guard does good quality work but people have reported wildly varying customer service experiences so watch out.

If you do go down the aluminium guard route please record some before and after sound files under otherwise-identical conditions. The tone question comes up often and it would be good to have some more objective evidence.

I've gone back and forth between aluminum and plastic guards on my jazzmasters many times, and I can't say I've ever noticed any loss of high end in the amplified sound (if there is, it must be small enough for me not to care). I have however noticed a difference in the acoustic sound, the aluminum seems to add a tinny metallic resonance and attack. It's not a huge difference, but it can be heard. I guess this could be more noticeable on my guitars than others since I have a very stripped down wiring scheme, leaving the cavities mostly empty.

You can fit a humbucker in the footprint of a standard JM pickup route on a pick guard. I did it in the bridge of a Classic Player of mine. I bought an extra JM pickup cover & cut a rectangle out of it so I could transform it into a mounting ring. It works. On a side note, I noticed my JM felt & sounded more resonant when I switched to the aluminum guard.

I'm also interested. Can someone tell me where that one came from?

Thanks in advance.

I found Tone-Guard to be unreliable. Took me a while to get my refund after he didn't make my pickguards for a good six months.

That being said, I have noticed that I don't like the sound of them. I took the pickguard off my Thurston JM and replaced it with a black plastic one- mainly because I wanted a tone control- and I liked it much better. Some may like the extra brightness, obvs- plenty do. YMMV.

Buy HERAD! He's a member here but also has a Reverb shop. I have a black one cut for P90s coming. If he doesn't have it, he can get it made.

Or, just fit a humbucker in the existing route and cover :)

Hello All, I found this thread and thought I'd rescue you all, I made this pickguard at my company Tiny Tone, if interested you can order through my website here: www.tinytone.co.uk

Each job is bespoke which is why you can customise anything, this person deleted the rhythm circuit but needed humbuckers with rings still..!

Cheers
