I thought I'd convert my CV Tele to an Esquire, so I ordered an Esquire pickguard. This is what I received. :wtf:
The packaging even says "Pickguard 50's Esquire". I probably shouldn't have ordered it on April 1st :squint:

Aren't there a couple Fender models of Telecaster that they call "Esquire", but are 2 pickups? Seems like Fender fuck-up to me.

Yeah, definitely a Fender mistake. The vendor (Guitar Audio on eBay) already refunded me for the pickguard. I'll try buying a non-Fender one next.

I just had a dozen UV printed pedal enclosures delivered from Tayda. Four of them are for new builds. The other eight are new enclosures, for pedals I've made previously, but that didn't have proper artwork (the stickers), or where I didn't like how it turned out. I'll have to re-do two of the enclosures unfortunately. One of them, I had a hole in the wrong spot, and the other, my labels are the same color as the enclosure.

Then, I have another three dozen or so pedals designed and ready to print. And there's another dozen-ish in my design queue to be figured out still. So, I have a nice back-log of designs built up now and shouldn't run out for a good long while.

Completed pics coming soon.

Man, I just sharpie bare aluminum boxes for pedal builds. Mostly so that I don't get held up waiting for enclosures. I went on a bit of a building binge during the pandemic years, just to keep myself busy. Now I have a couple hundred stuffed in all corners of my house. Having enclosures like that would make it easier to find the one I want when I go looking for it...I have no idea where my first Slow Gear build went...

To me, a pedal without some kind of graphics is only half built. I like twiddling knobs, but I need to know what they are supposed to do.

Here's the first one transferred to its new home.

First, my original enclosure:

I used the purple version of the factory graphics as a reference.

New enclosure, featuring everybody's favorite Sabbath lover, Ned Flanders. He also bears more than a passing resemblance to Tony Iommi, what with the moustache, left handedness, and affinity for crucifixes:

Yeah, I have the controls all labeled with a sharpie. As long as it sounds good, I don't care what it looks like! Function over form has always been my ethos. Which is not to say that I don't respect a nice enclosure, and that looks great! Stupid Sexy Flanders.

How do you like the Sabbra Cadabra?

It's a really fun pedal. To my ear, it nails that Sabbath sound, especially when I use it with some PAF type pickups. It's not an essential pedal, it doesn't hang out on my pedal board. It's awesome by itself, into a clean amp though. When I feel like playing "that" sound, or Sabbath-y doom metal/post-metal sounds, it delivers.

Next pedal: EQD Plumes clone

Image

My first enclosure was honestly, pretty lazy and stupid. I had struggled to find an idea, and just wanted to get it built. I threw some clipart of a cactus on it. Very JHS. Very lame.

And here's my new Plumes:

Much better!!

EDIT: Also, for the newer EQD circuits, do you also do the flexi-switching for these?

This looks brilliant ;D
I've ordered enclosures from tayda several times in the past but never took advantage of the UV printing. Looks like great quality. What's the durability of the print like?

Doug, are you getting those printed directly to the enclosures or is that DTF stickers you're applying yourself?

I don't. I looked at the breakout board options at pedalpcb, and they don't have anything for that. I suspect that since EQD has a patent on that switching, it would be a bad idea for pedalpcb to offer it.

That's hard to say, as I don't gig. It's definitely tougher than the waterslide decals with lacquer over the top, that I had been using.

It's a UV print, direct to the enclosure. There are three layers applied, white, color, and then clear. Then it is cured with UV.

They probably do. I remember seeing someone selling a little bypass utility board that basically did Flexi-switching. I was trying to find the link in case you were interested, but I can't seem to find it right now...

Of course, right as I give up, I find it. It's not a PCB, but a completed module. I feel like I remember a PCB as well, but that might just be my imagination...
