The Type II is my favorite. It's a beautiful design. My Telerauder was based on that one.N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2019 7:15 pmI want to do a Type 1 Marauder build but this definitely has me moving toward a type 2 now. Super super cool man. Very impressive.

Re: Fender Marauder II Prototype Replica
Thanks guys! I’m beyond super happy with it so far. I need to replace the bridge pickup because it’s malfunctioning, but other than that, it’s truly been a dream guitar. I can’t put it down!
I have my DSG at the studio. I’ll pick it up next practice and get some side by side shots!
Good lord… that thing is sweeeeeeeet! It does look fantastic with the mustang style trem. I just have real difficulty keeping those style trems in tune. In fact, that was the reason I ended up getting rid of my competition mustang reissue. But beautiful, nonetheless! Congrats!
Thanks! You really knocked it out of the park with the body! I’m forever grateful to you for agreeing to fabricate it for me!

If anyone wants to see how mine turned out, you can see an Instagram post with it:

I reached out to Joe initially to see if he’d paint it for me, when I realized I was never going to have the time to. I’d played a few of his guitars and always liked them. He used to work at Collings,, and his craftsmanship is pretty impeccable.
He offered to finish it for a pretty reasonable price, and I figured an awesome luthier, versus what I was going to do was worth it.
When looking into the moog switches, and wiring it became too much. We opted for simple and Joe made control plates based on faction templates. It plays fantastic. It’s got a strat switch on the top, blend knob for the middle pickup down by the jack, and McNelly gold foil jag pickups. Super fun, and different than anything else I own.

Looks great, and in all reality the strat style switching is probably more player friendly than the Marauder switching... Although those switches do look really cool.Hyphen Nation wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 11:37 pmIf anyone wants to see how mine turned out, you can see an Instagram post with it:

Thanks, man!
I was not sure if I'd like it, as I always thought I wanted the full Marauder, but my conversations with a few other players and Joe tipped me towards simpler.
I think the strat switch took it from bring a reproduction to simply a guitar I am going to play all the time.. I cannot tell you how much fun it is.
Sonichris made a beautiful neck and body. McNelly's jag gold foils are insane, and Joe pulled it together perfectly.

Re: Fender Marauder II Prototype Replica
Quick and small update to my Marauder II build... So I scored one of those sweet Musikraft Marauder II necks that you amazing fellow OSG forumites made possible. It was most likely the most basic model that someone listed on eBay, but the more accurate headstock was enough to warrant the purchase for me. I sprayed it with Duplicolor rattle can paint in an attempt to match the color of the body. I certainly wasn’t going to send it back to GuitarPaintGuys just to have the swoosh painted. It took 9 months the first go around. It isn’t an exact match (slightly darker), but hard to tell unless you are up close. I also did several other minor upgrades. Changed the bottom main control plate to the Moog rocker switch one. Faction was out of stock of that particular one when I had initially ordered them. I changed the bridge to a Staytrem. Also, I switched the neck plate out for a Fender “F” plate. There are a bunch of little tweaks that I would like to still do, but overall it is in perfect functioning/playing condition. I do like the feel of the Musikraft neck over the Warmoth one. The plus is now I have an extra Mooncaster neck to build another guitar with! You can never have too many spare necks lying around!

That looks great! Really dialing in on that vintage prototype Marauder II look. Great job on the headstock swoop finish.

I haven't been on for a while. Then I get an email about this project being done. It's frikkin' Awesone! You captured the original as well as possible. What a beautiful guitar. Very well done!

Re: Fender Marauder II Prototype Replica
In short, a s#!+ ton! I don't know the exact weight, but it's definitely more than a Les Paul. It easily weighs more than my Peavey T-60, maybe as much as my Peavey T-40, so probably around 10lbs... maybe 11lbs? Those plates definitely add some serious heft to it. I will need to get a wide leather padded strap for it most likely. Otherwise I might get a hernia from playing long term with such a load slung over my shoulder!

I thought that might be the case, but much like a Cadillac, you get something back for all those acres of chrome.mizbiz wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 3:53 pmIn short, a s#!+ ton! I have two, and they're basically part of my core strength training routine. I should weigh them. They're easily my heaviest guitars.
Worth it, though.
