Fender Jazzblaster pickup question - Tele Deluxe pickups

Post by prospect » Fri May 02, 2008 9:11 am

I searched the forums but couldn't find definitive answers.

The Jazzblaster mod... these are Deluxe Tele pickups, correct?

Are they bigger than normal humbuckers? or same size?

Also someone posted a link before to a $29 version of this pickup (non Fender).
Can someone please repost?
Anyone use this non Fender pickup model? How is it?

I think you are talking about the gfs pickup.
The tele deluxe pickups are bigger than normal humbuckers.
The gfs ones are humbucker size.

I haven't heard those, but I've ordered a couple of sets from them.

My jazzmaster has a set of mean 90s in it, my les paul has a set of dream 90s, and they are amazing.
I'm trying to decide between those vintage split and the widerange ones too.

I have a GFS Vintage Split bridge pickup which I installed in a Squier 51, as I really like the tones from both the original and reissue Fender WRHB. However, I felt the GFS was bland, lifeless, and lacked any kind of character whatsoever. For obvious reasons, I wouldn't be able to check out Fender WRHB in the same guitar for direct comparison. The other offerings I've tried from GFS have been pretty good though, especially for the money.

did you install it with the stock electronics? you know those mic guitars are terrible.

Mine's Indonesian, made in the Cort factory in 2005, with a solid basswood body. It also has the following mods: an Allparts TRF-22 neck (MIJ), an Acme/CTS 250K volume pot, Switchcraft LP style toggle & output jack, Sperzel locking tuners, and at the time, a GFS Lil Killer in the neck position. Previously I had a GFS Bigmouth in there which I liked. I wanted to try the Vintage Split though, since I'm a big fan of the WRHB. But like I said, it just didn't have the magic the WRHBs seem to have.

Well, if you want to try it but don't want to pay full price, I can sell you mine... I made one hell of a sales pitch for it, didn't I? PM me if you're interested.

Right on, you ought to check out the 51 modders' forum if you haven't already. http://www.instituteofnoise.com/squier5 ... efault.asp

Here's what it looks like now. Crappy cell phone pic is all I have.
