Cheap Baritone Conversion Neck Sources?

Post by X-Ray Spex » Tue Sep 08, 2020 9:44 am

Looking for a cheap conversion neck from a 25.5 scale to a baritone, using the search function I've only found references to Allparts and Warmoth. Are there any other under the radar options for cheap-reasonably priced baritone conversion necks? I can do a bit of finishing work myself so rawness isn't an issue.

Fender sells sub sonic necks for strat and tele. They're 27" scale.

I‘d be interested in that too!
Here in Europe it seems you only can get Tele-Baritone necks - and I don‘t particularly like that headstock-shape. A JM-shape or CBS-sized big headstock would be what I‘d wish for... the Sub-Sonic is a good idea - and cool that Fender stepped on that train - but the small Strat/Tele options are not to my personal liking.

Glad to see the Europeans out in force, should've specified I was Europe-based in my original post. Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys!

i imported one from america a few years ago. i dont remember who made it but it's a beefy boy of a neck. it used to be on a strat body i had but now it's on a jazzmaster. if you're importing a neck then keep in mind HMRC will probably want to charge you extra for not buying locally (even though when i bought the neck, no one in the uk was making bari conversion necks). anyway. enough yacking. have some baritone jazzmaster

Was it DC Kunkle? They used to make a 30.25"conversion neck, I still hate myself for not getting one... And now the company (or was it one guy?) has vanished.

i think so. i think if i remember rightly, it was one guy who'd make a few necks a month.

Here's an option.

Damn! That‘s reaaaaally cheap!
Any experience with these on a Fender-style neck-pockets? I mean I don‘t expect it to be as good as the 10x the price Jazzmaster neck I initially got for my project... but it shouldn‘t be shitty either!

I have an all maple 30" scale version of one of these Pit Bull necks. It's of decent usable quality. It will need the ends of the frets filed and smoothed and some finish sanding of the wood but it seems solidly built.

What I just realized, though, is that it's not a conversion neck. I put it in a Strat body (good snug fit in the pocket even if the curve doesn't match exactly) and realized that the 30" mark falls right at the very back of the stock bridge piece. So you would have to go with a custom bridge location.

If that's not a problem for you then the increased compactness of the resultant guitar might actually be seen as favorable.
