Like 10 out of 13 of the screws on my Jazzmaster are really crooked, like 45 degrees crooked, and it's been bugging me. So tonight I took off the guard, filled the holes with toothpicks and wood glue, and redrilled them. However, it didn't fix the problem. If anything it's worse now.
What's the best way to do this for real? I read that some drill a 1/8'' hole, fill with 1/8'' dowel, and then chisel the surface and redrill from there. Is that the best way, or is there another easier method?
Best way to dowel and redrill pickguard screw holes?

After filling the holes, did you (a) allow 24 hours for the glue to set hard, and (b) drill new pilot holes perpendicular to the surface? If you went straight back with the screws into not-set glue they would just follow the old tracks.
