I've never really gotten into shoegaze.
Wait...What?!?! ;D
I know, right?! Especially around here. Haha.
I am not a huge fan of shoegaze either. I like it, I just rarely ever put it on or seek out new artists.
I find most of it to be too slow moving. I need more of a groove or a swing to get me feeling the music.
Some shoegaze bands are rather exciting and intense, while others just make me sleepy or spaced out.
I also prefer Slowdive to MBV. The guitars I associate with Slowdive are the Rickenbacker 360, and the Epiphone Casino.
I was more into space rock bands like Spiritualized and Spaceman 3, which my shoegaze friends had also introduced me to.
Maybe I would have gotten into shoegaze more, if I heard of it at a different time.
I keep meaning to take a deeper dive.
What are some stand out groups that aren't the obvious ones?

Edit: Oh yea, Kevin Shield's JM is indeed iconic and gorgeous. I have no idea how original the finish is. I am sure somebody here must know.

Seymour Duncan Antiquities version 1’s ordered today!

Excited to try these pups for the first time. Some informative members on the tech/set-up have turned me onto the idea of using 250k volume and tone pots in the lower circuit and then replacing the rhythm circuit with 1meg pots to achieve the standard brightness if needed.

Going to have to sell off a few effects it seems to complete this build. Getting more expensive than I thought

The ball is continuing to roll...

Antiquity pups came today. Very nice packaging on these

Ordered a custom wiring harness from 920d. The lead circuit contains 250k volume and tone pots while the rhythm circuit knobs have both been changed to 1-meg volumes to control the neck and bridge pup independently. No tone pot on the rhythm circuit. Ordering from them was such an easy process and they were more than willing to meet my custom accommodation with no up charge and even applied their site discount coupon. They definitely had A+ customer service. Will highlight more as it comes

Finally, submitted an order form to spitfire for a vintage burgundy/bright red mix subtle speckled guard...

I’m racing time trying to get these parts ordered before my newborn arrives

Any source for most accurate Headstock decals as seen on Kevin Shield’s Jazzmaster? See pic below

I've got one but it's slightly damaged. I'll PM you a picture in a moment.

So, 920d shot this custom pre-wired assembly to my house in less than 60 hours from me ordering it. Not sure how this thing got made and then delivered so quickly. 920d was incredibly easy to work with and had no problem meeting my requests.

They wired the lead volume and tone to 250k pots. I done this in hopes to get a more mellow JM sound a la Nels Cline. However, not wanting to compromise the jingle jangle, they wired the rhythm circuit with 2 volume controls controlling each pickup at 1 meg. No tone pot on the rhythm so should be full brightness of the pickups there. I’m excited to get this wired up when that time comes.

Here is probably (besides the wiring) the most non-traditional piece of the build. A mastery. This one happens to be one of the older patent pending ones.

So, just ordered nearly every other thing besides pick-up foam, shielding, PG screws. I’m in a line waiting for spitfire, about 3 more weeks until he can begin mine.

For the rest I went with Fender roadworn for the neck plate, strap buttons, string tree. The most exciting bits of that stuff was probably the Gotoh vintage Kluson style tuners. Mojotone makes the whitest pup covers per another thread that got started recently, so I went with those. Didn’t want to go with cream as Kevin’s pups and knobs look fairly white. I think part of the interesting look of that guitar involves the color contrast

Does anyone have experience using the brass colored shielding plates to shield? Just curious of what people thought about those in comparison to copper tape

Any good ideas for foam?

Yes, hopefully it will pull off what I’m aiming for. Basically a very wam Jazzmaster on the lead and the standard Jm sound on the Rhythm. Will be interesting to AB the sound. I may post a video if I’m feeling frisky. And everyone promises not to make fun of my attempts at making music. :D

While I had originally intended on getting a spitfire guard, I was placed on a month long waiting list. Then, I saw this in our for sale section.

Forum member Paolo-ray has began a tort journey and this one he posted was far too convincing for me to pass up. There was a thread circulating here on the forum, but his company is titled “Lavaguards.”

Anyway here are some pics:
