Re: Recommend Me Pickups
I definitely recommend putting pickups in a Jazzmaster. It will be too quiet otherwise.

Re: Recommend Me Pickups
I very highly recommend Antiquity II's in combination with 500k pots, although I think I prefer P90s but those are not vintage correct.

Kinman hum canceling P-90 in a Jazzmaster case
or Mojotone Knockout (made to sound like P-90s) would give you a different vibe.

Without music, life would be a mistake.

Thanks y’all! I have a lot to think about. Currently leaning toward that JM-V/JM-Fat combo at the moment or the Antiquity I.

Re: Recommend Me Pickups
I'm going to wait like two years after the OP has already installed pickups and recommend Lollars or something. See you in 2023!

Re: Recommend Me Pickups
For the build I recently completed, I bought from EP Custom pickups on Reverb. Patrick's active on the r/offset subreddit and was super friendly to work with, so if you message him I bet he'll help sort out exactly the sound you're looking for.
I picked up his vintage-accurate formvar JM set and they're killer.

Re: Recommend Me Pickups
I have a set of Pickup Wizard standard JM pickups, but with A2 magnets and they're amazing.
I also *heartily* recommend Tim from Sunday Handwound. He made my Tele pickups and they're wonderful, and I'll be getting more from him.

Re: Recommend Me Pickups
I really like Tim's mixed pole types, with A5 on the bottom strings and A2 on the top. When I emailed him about doing me up some like that, he was already a step ahead and had been experimenting with it already. That ended up becoming his "52" type, and it's really a fantastic pickup. Tight on the bottom, sweet on the top, balanced and dynamic and just wonderful. Tim's a good egg with a superb product at a price that's honestly an obscene bargain for what you get. If he doubled his price, he'd probably get more business just because the church band "more expensive is more better" hype machine would start cranking over and his pickups more than live up to it.
This is an excellent rectangle

Re: Recommend Me Pickups
All this is really true. He's making pickups for my strat-stang hybrid and I can't wait, but really the price he's charging me for them (especially given how good I know they'll be) is a crazy bargain. I'm strongly considering asking him to do a custom set for my Cyclone to replace the Lollars I have in there next.mackerelmint wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 3:59 pmI really like Tim's mixed pole types, with A5 on the bottom strings and A2 on the top. Re: Recommend Me Pickups
Yeah. This right here says it all. "I think I'd do better with another set of Tim's pickups than these excellent Lollars that cost 3 or 4 times as much." He's cut me deals to the tune of $25 for a set of VMJM pickups that he reworked into yet another masterpiece of winding. I mean, that's just untouchable.
Tim is a well-kept secret, and he deserves all the success he cares to chase after.

Yep. His pickups (an alnico 2 'Woody' pair) are the ones that ended up staying in my Jazzmaster.mackerelmint wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 6:55 pmYeah. This right here says it all. They replaced Novaks.
