Classic Player Pickup replacement?

Post by spencersmith » Sat Apr 10, 2021 10:26 am

hi all - first time posting here. I've tried to find good threads on replacement pickups for these.
I like how my CP sounds - it sits well in a live mix. But i'm always wanting to turn my tone to 12 or 13.
Just need a little more treble. And the bridge PUP is round, but still thin.

I've listened to clips of Lollar and Fralin P90's. They all sound "honky" to me.
My Classic Player is NOT honky sounding.

So, opinions on what good pickups would be?

I asume you got the CP with the P-90 style Jm pick ups?
They sound pretty mid to me and lack some low and high end.

I think both Lollar and Fralin will be more what you are after.
You might want to consider a classic style Jm neck pick up and the Jm/P-90 hybrid for the bridge.
I find this a great combo. I think Lollar, Fralin and Novak does these sets.
It's a bit of best of both worlds imho.

Try a "No load" tone pot, or bump the volume pot value up to the next standard value, if you have 250K, try a 500K. Both of those things will give you just a bit more high end.
