Red Glitter Jagmaster Refin

As I’m nearing the finish like for my roast gold glitter starmaster, I’m teeing up the next one, a short scale Squier Jagmaster II. It’s been badly abused and I’m not a fan of Tobacco Burst finishes, so a full refin is in order.

I plan on going with a ruby red glitter 2k poly finish. While I’m at it, it will get a new neck, this bound and block inlay 24” scale neck will do nicely, with a matching red sparkle headstock, naturally!

Went for a full strip, got out the heat gun and a scraper. It took about an hour to remove the original poly.

Then, after finning and sanding some of the deeper dings, I put down a CAR base coat and glitter finish. The light doesn’t adequately show how awesome this finish is.

This is going to be pure perfection when it’s done!

That was a 3-tone sunburst, not a tobacco burst.

Not a great one either though, so you have my blessing ;D

This looks excellent! Any other upgrades planned? Different pickups, pickguard, etc.

It will get a pair of Duncan-licensed pickups, a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck with a push-pull coil tap and possibly a new tremolo and a red tort pickguard, as well as the 22 fret neck and tuners.

I polished the clear coat yesterday and have opted to keep the stock neck- I'll use the other one on a future project.

my current dilemma is that the new pots are CTS/Fender 3/8" units and the stock pickguard is drilled for Import pots- do I just drill out the stock one or order a new pickguard? I kinda don't want to wait...

Looks good!
Can you please tell us more about the neck?
Where do you have it from and how is the quality, etc...

The neck that I was originally going to use was a neck from eBay in China. It needs some work: it’s a standard 22 fret neck, with a bit of an overhang. The Jagmaster II’s use a 21 fret neck that’s about 6mm shorter, so the new neck heel would have to be suitably shortened. That not that difficult, it can be done with a router and a neck template, but I’m just not feeling it and the overhang would be significant- about 1/2”. It’s also a hair too wide- it’s no trouble to sand it down, but I’ve got other projects I’m working on, too, so I just wanna get this one done and move on, so I’m reverting to the stock neck.

I thought the Jagmaster II had some sort of 21 fret conversion neck on it? The Original Vista series was a true 24” scale the first reissue was a 25.5”.

It’s not really a conversion neck, it’s just a fret less and 1/4” shorter than a standard 22 fret, 24” scale neck. It doesn’t really work on any other extant guitar, other than the Jagmaster ii.
Yes, the first reissue of the Jagmaster was 25.5” scale. By whatever quirk of nomenclature, the 24” model is referred to as the Jagmaster II, according to Squierwiki, iirc
