Having slept on it I've decided that I'll be painting this in a yellowed/aged Pelham Blue.

I'll order the paint this weekend and go from there. The pickups from Creamery will likely take a couple of months due to his backlog so I have plenty of time to paint it, let it cure, then age it properly. The aim is to have it looking like it's an old factory refinish, some checking and a few chips here and there. Not a relic, just so it looks honest as befits the donor guitar.

It's been a while since I painted a guitar, but I'm thinking this should be what I need?

1x sanding sealer
1x white primer
1x Pelham Blue
1x tinted clearcoat
1x gloss clearcoat

I'm just going to give a very thin coat of each clear, and the tinted will be dusted over then slightly 'randomised' so as to melt into the clear in the areas normally that age the most.

Whoa! This is gonna a great project/restoration to follow!
I voted for Tahitian Coral but the yellowed/aged Pelham Blue you're shooting for is gonna look awesome on the Mustang :?

This will end up looking like a stripe-less, blue Compstang, which is a very good thing, IMO :)

best gibson color– i think i prefer fender's gun metal blue (my wife's performer bass is that color, not sure what else they used it on), but pelham is an excellent color for sure.

Agreed. I had a Pelham SG that was a lovely colour a few years back. I always gravitate to it when I think of my favourite blue colours

Had a big ol' box of rattlecans arrive today so I quickly pinned up my makeshift spray booth in the garage and started the long drawn-out process of the refinish.

Pelham is such a great choice and I agree with whoever said it's Gibson's best colour. It really is, especially on an Offset. I have a Pelham Blue Firebird T, and it's a work of art on that curvy body. Can't wait to see it on a Mustang!

I've bought and sold a few Pelham Gibsons over the years but, because I just CANNOT get on with them they always got moved on. Hopefully I can something in this colour I want to actually keep finally :D
