920D in Squire CV JM
I recently pick up a Classic Vibe 60’s JM. I have shimmed the neck and put a 920D vintage in it. Polished the frets and set up. I didn’t change the PUP’s and it sounds great but the taper on the volume cuts output pretty quickly. Will I get better roll off with different PUP’s. I didn’t notice this with the original harness. Any input from the more experienced out there. Thanks

All brand misspelling aside, I took a look at the JMH-VINTAGE wiring harness to see what pot types they use. If the specs are true, they're using 1meg AUDIO pots for both the volume and tone. I know that some people will disagree, but I think conventional wisdom is to use a linear pot for volume and audio pot for tone (as Fender does on the American Original, for example). This will vary depending on many factors, but I think in this scenario the Audio taper volume pot is the problem.
With that being said, I seem to recall in my experience that this is mitigated by using 50s wiring, where the wire connecting the volume pot to the tone pot is actually connected to the *middle* lug of the volume pot rather than the far one. That's purely anecdotal and based on a fuzzy memory, but I figured I'd mention it since it's a quick test that doesn't involve swapping pots.

It sure is a cool guitar. Classic vibe Squiers are what I wish I would have started out with, when I started playing guitar.
