I got this guitar for pretty cheap on Reverb. I am having Sweetfinger make me a black pickguard with just a volume and jack. I am also swapping the neck. The one that came with it has several dings and chips. Should be cool!

Niice. Is that the full scale version or the short scale? I can't remember if those had conversion necks or not.

There were two versions. 24“ and 25,5“ - but no conversion necks afaik.

This is one of the full scale ones. I think just the Japanese ones were short scale. The others are full iirc.

New neck came in. The stock on has dents and dings and chips so I figured I would just grab a different neck for it. This one turned out to be SUPER nice. THE FLAME.....
It is installed with my custom Tom Delonge neckplate. ;)

Is that one of the affinity JM necks? I bought one a while ago as a mod platform and its honestly become one of my favorite necks to play. It feels a bit wider than normal and just the right thickness.

Dunno. It is newer. (2021) It has a 70's style logo so I am not sure.

The seller said the fretboard is Indian Laurel. Looks way darker than what I have seen before. It is honestly nicer looking than some of my rosewood ones. Bizarre how pretty this Squier neck is. All for $80 including tuners....

Well shoot. I haven't heard from Sweetfinger for a few weeks and he has my pickguard. I guess to be safe, I ordered a replacement guard from overseas so I can try to get a new one made from that. :( $80 with shipping later.....

just remember not to do a vinyl covered pickguard and a univox ripper pickup in the bridge or we'll have problems.

joking aside, i love how this one's turning out. the thing with jagmasters is they can look a bit weird with the small headstocks but the large ones can also look a bit weird, making the guitar look kinda stubby. i think you may have found a happy balance.

nope.

so you have the CIJ vista's which are full scale.
you have one model of the chinese ones that had a short scale neck (i've somehow ended up with 2)
and you had the other chinese model which was full scale.

so if i remember rightly, the timeline for jagmasters looks like this.

vista jagmasters (regular 24" scale) 96-98
vintage modified jagmaster (full scale) 2000-2004
standard series jagmaster (weird 24" scale) 2005 - 2008ish?

there were changes on them over the years. some full scales have the 6 point bridge, some have the 2 point, it's super inconsistent.

here's how i remember the differences at a glance.

vista: looks different from the VM/standards. less squished and bulbous. came in sunburst, candy apple red, vintage white (what my vista is), black and sonic blue.
VM jagmaster: kinda bulbous looking next to a vista or a jaguar, like someone kinda squished it in photoshop. 21 frets means it's an early model, 22 means it's a late model. only came in red, silver and sunburst. japan got a few more colours if i remember rightly.
standard jagmaster: same body as the VM but space between the pickups doesn't look right. only came in sunburst and black in the west. will never have 22 frets. i think japan got some extra colours again.
