I dunno if this helps or not, but there's a Mascis neck listed on eBay right now from a reputable seller. I'm not the seller but I have given them my money on a few purchases.

One thing to note is that the newer gen Mascis necks are slightly wider at the heel, so it’s *possible* there may be an issue with the fit that needs to be addressed through sanding if he goes with the eBay listing above. I suppose it’s also worth knowing which Mascis neck the OP is using to as his point of reference - the CY serial or the CGS serial. I think the newer ones tend to be wider/fatter, although I can confirm that there’s a lot of variance with the originals in terms of neck depth.

Thanks so much for the heads up on this one. I put in a bid but wasn't able to track it all the way through so didn't get it. Will keep an eye out. Cheers!

Interesting - I hadn't heard about significant sizing differences. I bought a JMJM in 2020 (sold it) and then three necks since but didn't pay attention to the serial # details. One went on a TVL JM body, one went on a Player JM, etc.

Hello, I fix/mod guitars as a hobby for some time now, how bad is the chipping on the neck? is it only on the Rosewood or on the Maple? I did an excellent repair on a badly damaged Epiphone Casino Rosewood fretboard some years back. Very simple task and a good result. Any loose Rosewood splinters must be removed, clean the area with mineral turps, not once but maybe three times. I used a water based putty from a hardware store, it was available in different colours so I went with black, spread it into the damage and let it sit for a few days, used a razor blade to scrape some excess off, then a very fine sandpaper going with the grain to finish, let it sit for a couple more days then re-oiled the whole fret board with Linseed oil (my favourite), after a good rub with a clean cloth I had to look very hard to spot the repair. I sold that guitar a couple years ago and the buyer examined every detail of the guitar and was unaware of the repair until I told him, he couldn't find it! I encourage you to have a shot at repairing yourself before buying another neck.
Thanks for the repair advice and instructions here. The chip is in the rosewood on the high e 12th fret and it encroaches a bit on the flat space of the fretboard. So I'm going to take some time to see if it actually affects playing much and might give this a try either way.

Yeah... I have that same problem... The amount of times I'm watching an auction and somebody comes to me with something important during the last literal minute of an auction is frustrating... I've missed things by seconds because I get distracted.

I have several JMJM/Deluxe necks, but I would have to take the strings off to measure. I'll report back when I get those. The one thing that's important to note about them is that it's not as much the depth that gives it a unique feel as much as the width and shoulders.
I think you're spot on here in that it's the shoulders of the neck profile carve that make the Mascis necks feel larger. In fact, even though Fender lists the JMJM specs as having a C shape, I wonder if maybe it's more of a U shape (because of the more pronounced shoulders).
The nut is a little over 1.675"/42.6mm wide, so definitely wider than the standard options from Squier and MIM Jazzmasters. Secondly, there's a bit of a roundover built into the neck carve, so it doesn't feel sharp at the edges.
I'm curious what you mean here by "roundover"... are you referring to the edge of the fretboard (as in "rolled fretboard edges")?
It's probably actually a thinner neck than how it feels, if that makes sense.
I agree... I've measured several JMJM necks and they typically seem to be about .83" - .84" thick at the first fret. That's not what I would call large by any means, yet they feel chunkier than other necks that have similar thickness.

I love the shape and feel of the Mascis necks, but I do wish they were thicker as I also have pretty large, clumsy ape-like mitts. I may end up just ordering one from Musikraft.

What are other JM (or strat) necks you'd recommend that are close to the dimensions of the Squier Mascis neck? Another Classic Player JM neck? A Strat neck? (if so, please be specific as I've never owned a Strat). '60s Vintera JM?
Squier 40th Anniversary JM necks are pretty close.
Yeah, I had one of these and the neck was .88" at the first fret, which is actually a bit thicker than most of the Mascis necks I've come across (probably should've kept that one). I don't know if they're consistently that size, but definitely worth checking out.

Effectively, yes. However, I have doubts that they're going through the trouble of "rolling" the edges. It just seems like it's shaped that way from the CNC. As a point of comparison, I've owned two Classic Vibe Tele Customs made in the same factory, and those had the sharpest fretboard edges I've ever felt, and I sold each one as a result.
