Looking for some refinishing tips

Looking to do a black over sunburst project, any tips on doing that with the arm-wear to come through and maybe a few other locations?

Do you have an existing sunburst body youre gonna spray black over? In that case its as "easy" as sanding the finish down a bit (being careful not to sand thru the burst in any areas you want it to show), spraying the black then sanding/rubbing/chipping thru it in spots to reveal the sunburst. This is easier with nitro over poly as the poly underneath wont chip easily but the nitro will.

If youre spraying a burst finish yourself then black on top, i recommend a few coats of clear in between to act as a "buffer" between the two finishes when sanding. Otherwise youre likely to burn thru your sunburst finish not long after sanding thru the black.
