I couldn't help myself. despite the difficulty of finding additional parts, I picked up a 1965 XII body. i do have an original bridge plate on the way. at least that is out of the way.
Now i have to find this little part called a neck..... if anyone has ideas, please PM me.

hi finboy- the XII neck heel is wider than that of the Coronado. It wouldn't fit

i think the XII heel is somewhere between 2 5/16" (58.74 mm) and 2 3/8" (60.32mm).
A Coro -JM - strat heel is 2 3/16" or 55.55mm.

just out of curiousity, would one of the japanese production run of strat xii necks fit the neck pocket? or are they narrow like a real strat neck? they look wider in pictures. i always thought the headstocks look pretty cool. but i know this is a vintage build so maybe you could figure out a way to add wood and refinish it vintage correct? it's just the top piece that needs wood and has no structural duties...... with a matching headstock refin could work....
plus you can get a complete set of hardware. i saw a few go for around 600 on the bay. then maybe some novaks? all stuff you obviously are aware of
stoked for your build man. if i see anything before you (doubtful) i will let you know.
maybe someone else could build one for you? lots of builders here and templates seem to exist. i remember nickabulous in Australia is building his own neck for his.
rock on

It would look even cooler with a B&B neck like this Jaguar below

that's not a bad idea. those heels are wider than a strat heel.
but i want a gumby headstock

yes, prospect, i remember that xii well!
ok, i bought a digital caliper to measure the pocket's width.
this guitar has been stripped and refinned. the heel is pretty good, but it isn't perfect. allowing for a mm or so for a new lacquer in the pocket, and a neck to go in tightly with a lacquer finish, i would say that the XII's heel width is 2 3/8" (60.5mm)
Now will someone make me a neck like that?!

Check with Warmoth - I think they'll do the correct headstock if you call them.
This is a VERY recent thing...a friend of mine who works there told me about it before they were available.

Congrats!
EXII necks are 2 3/8" wide at heel. The heel curve radius is bigger than on strat necks, so the distance between last fret and midddle point of heel is the same as on regular strat/JM necks. I don't got tha measurement in my head though, but a neck builder might be able to work that out, I guess.

Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?
