I love the top-routed control cavity!! And the neck inlays
Yeah, really sweet! Could maybe be interpreted as a Halloween-themed one
What are the pickups?
Just a gfs goldfoil in bridge. In the neck is an old teisco pickup that I rebuilt.

Good luck with yours. Any electronics going in?
Not yet I do plan on using it as my gigging nylon so will probably get some mic/piezo blending situation like an Anthem. I think I’ll be able to just fit my arm in that big soundhole with the fretboard extension

This should become an octave mandolin. Approximately 504mm (around 19 inches) scale length. This is a new body I am making for it. The previous one was a little small. It was also a different shape. This one was inspired by the Peavey Razer.
I haven't worked out the bridge yet. I made a wooden archtop style bridge for the other body, but it may look out-of-place on this body. I'm thinking of just making individual saddles that I can easily move around. There's a lot of sanding left to do, and the body is bubinga, so it will be a chore to sand and route. I will use a rail Tele neck pickup with splitable coils. One volume and tone with a mini switch to select humbucker or single coli mode.

I made a custom solid body mandolin one time. I used a rosewood archtop bridge and a Tele neck pickup. It looked really good. You probably won't be disappointed with that. That was many years ago and I don't have any photos of it or I'd post one.

Thanks for your comment. I'll try to post a photo next week of the body with the archtop bridge I made. I'm still leaning towards the individual saddles, possibly made from brass.

Looking forward to that. Brass saddles will look great.

Thanks for your comment. Here's the bubinga bridge that I made some time ago. I have routed the pocket for the neck, but I need to check the neck angle and decide if I want to go with this bridge or make individual saddles. More later.

Does illustrator count as my workbench ?
Just throwing ideas around, never thought finding a cool cutaway design was so difficult !

Okay that last one looks sweet IMO, though I'd angle the bass side a bit more toward the bottom and the treble cutaway as well (so you can draw a diagonal line from where the bass side meets the neck to where the treble side does, if I'm making any sense).

Thanks ! This is the one I ended up continuing drawing, and now I can only see that I arrived at something looking a lot like a Gibson Blueshawk/Nighthawk, a shape I've always found very unpleasant to look at

Sometimes a tweak here and there makes a big difference.
I like this shape, with some modifications.

Testing the layout. The big question is where to run the ground wire--most likely to the string anchor at the end of the body. I need to remember to drill a channel from the pickup cavity (yet to be routed) before I glue in the neck.

That looks super cool. Very retro in the best ways.
