it appears that you can go see Rowland's Jaguar (and his Twin Reverb and MXR pedals) at the Australian Music Vault in Melbourne.

The AMV has this excellent photo of his jaguar too

Cool. I live there and never heard of this. Will drop by next time I'm downtown. Website has a decent summing up of the local scene at the time spawned by our suburban, mostly middle-class angst ... ;)

Suburban, middle-class types made 90% of the punk music that stood the test of the years... ;)

My band in Manchester basically started out as a Birthday Party rip-off, our guitar player was completely obsessed with Howard and I even remember cutting his hair to what he called "a Standard Rowland, please". Luckily, it was the only haircut I could manage - short sides and some kind of trimming to the front and back when it go too long.

(just found a picture...he's the less blurry one)

I keep going back to the Birthday Party and Howard's solo career, he really was the koolest guitarist of those times.

Autoluminescent, a Rowland biography of sorts from those who are still alive ... ultimately very sad given his demise .....
https://vimeo.com/49083488

As Nick Cave says, Rowland seemed to emerge 'fully formed' from a young age. Not mentioned is the fact that he went to what was locally known as a 'hippy school', Swinburne Community School. It was for those kids who didn't quite fit into conventional schools, or whose parents actually wanted a less rigid style of education. My friend went there too as his dad (a noted local educationalist and Trotskyite) ran the school. The rest of the Boys Next Door / Birthday Party including Nick Cave were all private school boys (Caulfield Grammar). I was also a private school boy, and I remember being startled by how different from your average Australian kid my friend was. There was something about that school that allowed kids to develop in ways that the rest of us weren't allowed to ... until some of us rebelled.

For anyone interested, you can now make your own Rowland Jaguar tribute via the Fender Mod Shop. Unfortunately it’s only available for the US and it won’t be cheap

This is looking great. I agree with the above that the tort is especially nice. My wife got me a copy of the TSF reissue recently, so this is a very timely build.

It's coming together really nicely.

Edit: Just noticed how old the original post was. Still a great looking guitar.

I've seen the original guitar in person recently.
I'm trying to figure out if it's a refin or not?
Judging by the chip on the bottom butt, it looks like it could be thick poly?

Holy crap!

Buying book now!

If you look closely in the cavities, there's not much white paint.
Could have been sunburst?

They weren't doing matching headstocks by '69, so it could have been factory white. It would only have been 10 years old when he bought it, less time for a chequered history. Plus I assume they were still doing custom colours over bursts in the poly era.

Yeah, you're probably right.
A lot of bad things can happen to a guitar in 10 years though.
The wiring has been stuffed with.
I would be interested to see the cavities of another white Jaguar from the same year.

bumping dead ass threads is like the best part of forum culture, you cant really quite do that on other platforms. i would also argue that you could remake this model way cheaper, by getting a white VM jaguar and a random CV jaguar and parting them together. that way you would even have 2!

Australian Music Vault just had a new FB post about Rowland's jag (still) on display in Melbourne (pic below) ...
https://www.facebook.com/australianmusi ... 0458494406

For anyone interested in related history, they also recently did a long video interview with Genevieve McGuckin (Rowland's onetime partner, musical and otherwise). She tells the story of the purchase of the guitar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an9VnDPMYTw

The earlier links to Harry Howard's pictorial book about the guitar appear to be dead, and according to FB it sounds like the books are all gone.
