Finally Finished My Bass VI

Post by thewizardofaz » Wed Nov 28, 2007 4:13 pm

I started my six almost 9 months ago, but due to a variety of things it took forever. Over the weekend, I finally finished my T-Bird bronze metallic Six. I had posted a poor picture in another thread, but I took some better ones today. The light really changes the color depending on the way it hits it. It has a bronze color in one, a burgundy mist in another, a rose in another. Pretty neat color. Right now I've got the D'Dario, or however you spell it, set on it. Once the neck settles, I've got a set of La Bellas to go on it. I love the sound. It's got some pop. I thought the strings would be hard to bend, but they're really easy to bend. I can see some booming blues coming. ;)  I should have put an Earvana nut on it, but didn't think of it until I was cutting the nut. Anyway, here's the link:

So is this from an original body/neck?

It's a USA Custom project, I've got one in the works too.  So what did you do about the saddles?  It looks like you used the Warmoth modified mustang saddles...???  The 'G' String saddle looks different... or is it the photo?
It looks really amazing!  Great Job  :)

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.Yea, it's a USACG alder body and neck. It's surprisingly light. I was expecting it to be heavier. I used a mixture of wamoth mod saddles with adjustable height screws and two original saddles in the middle. The radius is 9.25 instead of 7.25. I like the idea of being able to adjust one string rather than raising or lowering the whole bridge.

Maaaang that's gorgeous!

Maybe we should merge pics of all finished projects of OCG.com together in one thread, just to show it all off!!!

Man, that is cool!  Really great job!

I use a mix of saddles on mine as well, 4 with lots of grooves and 2 with just one groove, for the 2 lowest strings.

Kickass, man!

Looks great!

On a separate yet related note, I exchanged emails with Christophe (he's the luthier in France who is responsible for making repro VI parts that several forumites have bought) a few weeks back and he is going to (sometime in the not-too-distant future) be making/selling Mustang-type saddles with adjustable height hex screws (such as those on the Modified Warmoth Mustang bridge). That'll be a real nice add-on to his hardware line.
