Starcaster project. Made from Paulownia.

Binding is glued, top is carved and back cavity is routed.

I went a bit too deep with the routed on the bottom 2 pot holes. I reinforced it with a piece of maple.

I like it! The jag / jazz pickguard is cool how it evokes a Yamaha SG2/3.

Is the Starcaster a solid body or hollow? I could imagine Paulownia might be light enough to make it solid?

It's very light. Yeah, I'm going to keep it solid. Might rout some F holes in it though.

Love the pine-o-master, it would look sweet with a black headstock. Did you laminate the body, or was it recycled? I love the join lines showing through.

Yeah, It's laminated from one long strip which I cut in to pieces. It was probably going to be used as a window frame. the lines you can see are visible because that part of the timber was a bit more aged and dirty.

I think it's awesome without the F holes.

If you were going to do F-holes in future, I have a crazy idea.

How about doing a rear rout cavity (like you've done for the controls) on both sides, cut the F holes into that and mount stealthy thumbwheels into the sharp middles of the F-holes to adjust the volume / tone? Combine with rear routed stealth pickups and an end pin jack for the ultimate undercover solid body electric masquerading as an archtop!

So, you're Tru-Oiling over the decal too, instead of clear laquer?
This is something I'm wanting to try myself. If so, how do you apply it?
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

No. I have only finished the body in tru-oil. I started finishing the neck with it but wasn't happy with the results so I finished it off off Vinyl sanding sealer and polished it to a semi sheen.
I'm sure tru-oil would work pretty well but it just takes a bit more patience.

thanks.
Not quite sure what brand they are. They are Alnico p90 humbuckers. Sound pretty nice.

Custom Kraft inspired headstock but with a 'swoop'
Birdseye maple angled head.
