Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I'm trying to come up with my headstock design.
I'm just playing around with some ideas.
What do you think?
1, 2, or 3 ??
I'm aware that it's quite similar to the G&L design but I'm hoping it looks enough like its own thing.

I really like the headstock shape. It's rare that I say that but this one looks great!
I'd keep it simple & go with the second one, or the third if you somehow made the black area smaller.

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Hey thanks. It's good to get feedback on this. Headstock designs are difficult. They seem to be the most subjective part of a design.PorkyPrimeCut wrote:I really like the headstock shape. It's rare that I say that but this one looks great!

The third one, I was playing around with the Epi batwing design.

I like the second one. It looks just right to me, without the swoop.

The first one stands out the most for me, but I like all of them. The third is my least favorite...

That's cool! I've never seen pine beetle effected wood be used in a guitar before. I would imagine it won't have any effect on tone but I think it would be cool if you tried to find a stain that helped the blue stain from the beetle come out a bit.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I made this Danelectro bass using a Closet door I found in the gutter.
I pieced it together using scrap bits of Hoop pine. It's assembled the same way as a Dano. Hollow with a bit of wood running down the middle.
I had the neck for years and didn't know what to do with it. I'm sure it's from the late 60s. It's been modded somehow. It might even be a Silvertone neck.
I had a bunch of parts sitting around for years which suited this project including a GFS lipstick pickup, Musicmaster bass bridge and Reissue Danelectro tuners with 'D' logo.

I'm modding an old 335 Teisco style hollow body.
GFS arrow neck with Cinnamon pearl headstock overlay to match the pickguards.

Closet Classic! I love it!
Might be a bit late now, but the 2nd headstock shape is really cool - but I would streamline it slightly, to bring it towards Jazzmaster proportions instead of CBS if you know what I mean. I love that it evokes the Coronado but gets a little sharpness from the batwing bit, it's a really nice idea.
