2007 CIJ 66 Reissue Pickguard Help

Post by ARAMP1 » Sun Feb 03, 2008 8:58 am

I did a search and I couldn't find the info, so here it goes...

I'm piecing together a Jazzmaster that I found a body for on evilbay.  Anyway, I'm getting a custom pickguard made for it.  The guy wanted to know if it's an American or Japaneese Jazzmaster.  It's a 2007 CIJ 1966 reissue, but it got me wondering what the difference between the American and Japaneese pickguards are.  Any ideas?  So, do I tell the guy it's a Japaneese Jazzmaster?

yes, it's a japanese jazzmaster. "CIJ" means "Crafted In Japan". there are slight differences, i've heard, between the 2 models, so you're probably safer to tell the guy it's japanese.

We should have a general pickguard FAQ on the board, just like we have a pickup FAQ, a Bass VI guide, bridge FAQ, etc...

I understand that, but I'd guess that there are differences between the earlier 62 MIJ reissues and the 66 CIJ reissues?  And if so, what is the difference between the 66 CIJ and the AVRIs?  Just wondering.

The screw hole mount pattern is different and the bridge cups are slightly off on the CIJ, indicating a difference in the body.  The AVRI is identical to American-made vintage.

By the way, the 66 is just part of the CIJ part number... its not really a "reissue" but just a general copy of a 60s era guitar. A real '66 would have a bound board with dots or binding. There are also some CIJs with the binding and dots though. Both models have 66 in the part number.
