truss rod problems with squier tele anyone?
my squier standard tele has a problem; to get the neck curvature right i have to tighten the truss rod all the way, and even then it has just a bit too much relief, but i can live with that. the biggest problem is that the rod seems to be slipping. after a few weeks the neck is bent like a banana and i have to re-tighten the rod. for a long time i figured this was due to the fact that i once smashed it against the stage floor until the neck came off. but yesterday i found that two of my bandmates have the same problem with their squier teles (same model, origin and year of manufacture), and they have been gentle as ever with theirs.
does anyone else have this problem with their squiers?

i have a squier deluxe trans strat with no such problems. i adjusted the truss rod on day one when i performed its first setup - two years ago - and haven't had to adjust it again.
how banana-ed is it? could it be due to climate changes?

Oh I have that on may AVRI neck - not slipping, but just a tiny tiny bit little too much relief, even when tightened.
But I'll get over it by over-dressing the higher frets a bit.
I suppose they think everyone's playing .9's.

if i leave it alone for long enough it will go seriously banana, i'm talking maybe a 5-6 mm gap when fretted at the first and last fret. i don't think climate changes can be to blame, although it may be a small part of the problem.del wrote: how banana-ed is it? could it be due to climate changes?

Re: truss rod problems with squier tele anyone?
You may have to have the neck heated and straightened. I had this trouble with my 74 Strat a long time ago, and I used 9's.
Try tuning it down a half step and leave it for a couple of weeks and see if it still does this. If it does, the wood they made the neck out of may have had an original curvature that comes back after a while.
I fixed my strat neck by having it refretted with jumbos which give the neck more strength and I also had it replaned during refretting. It seems to be stable now.
Also, when you tighten the truss rod, try loosening all the strings to be very slack and then tighten it. Sometimes if they are up to pitch, the rod will only go so far, but if they are loose, the rod can go farther.
Hope this helps.
That kind of problem would piss anyone off.
If you can find a junk neck from a flea market (I found 2 strat squire necks for 10 bucks apiece like that) and you can replace it.

Re: truss rod problems with squier tele anyone?
thanks for the advice, but i don't care enough about the guitar to spend any money on fixing it. i just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem too.
actually, i kinda smashed the guitar again at a gig this weekend, not too badly though, it's still in one piece apart from a shattered pickguard.
anyway, i'll keep re-tightening the rod until it gives up on me, and after that i guess i'll have to start playing slide on it
