Pimp cheap guitars

Post by jonny-devo » Mon Mar 03, 2008 4:50 pm

Hi
A few weeks ago I rediscovered my first guitar. I got that one for Christmas, when I was 12 or 13. I'm talking about a cheap Yamaha Pacifica 112X (I think, but I'm not quite shure) and I had to face the fact that I still love it.
So, my question is (you might call me insane): Does it worth pimpin'? I thought about some SD Pickups in higher quality or stuff like that. Does it worth in a econmical way.

cheers
Jonny

I always heard Yamaha Pacifica were good guitars for the price..
Yeah I'd upgrade it.
I mean, if you like it why not make it better... and if one day you buy a new guitar, you could still take the upgraded parts and put them in the new guitar or if you like the new guitar in its stock form, resell the parts.

I upgraded a Squier Jagmaster with Seymour Duncan and it made a really great sounding guitar... I'm sure it would have put to shame some guitars costing way more $$$.
Once you're lost in twilights's blue, you don't find your way. The way finds you...

If you like the guitar, everything is worth. ;)

I second that.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

I do it all the time. Cheapo's that play nice are even nicer after upgrades. I'm mostly looking arround for used parts that I can use on those project guitars. Sometimes even really nice parts can be found for little money due to wrong ordered parts. I'm now in the process of doing a full refin + upgrades  on two guitars. Sure is fun and educating :)
