Now, I know I said "no more than 3 guitars" but...

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Yeah, I kind posted that thinking maybe it would end up with a blank neck plate and an Esquire pickup :D
Or maybe it would be a Les-Squire. I dunno.

Nice guitar. I just hope you don’t sit around the pub talking about “Golden Nut Ratios” with the lads.
No discussion needed, we all know the golden nut ratio is 2:1 :D

I think they like the term Les Paul senior now. Quite like a black standard and that weight is fantastic. I think there was a trogly video from the Gibson demo shop with a les Paul with tele pickups via those conversion plates.

I saw that Trogly video, but the pickups were a total bust. The neck pickup was wound to over 9k and the bridge pickup was wound to over 15k, so they were much darker sounding than proper Tele pickups should be (especially the bridge!).

It's a shame, because it would have been really cool to hear what "real" Telecaster pickups would sound like in it.

That's disappointing to hear. With the almost Mary Ford style accoutrements it looked wonderfully vintage and would probably have really suited something quite vintage sounding. Maybe someone here should track one down and mod it. You know, for science ;D

I've been a hair away from slapping Tele pickups on one of my Vs for a while now. Just can't decide which one. I have a Melody Maker V, which only has a bridge pickup, so, naturally, I've been envisioning ways to get a Tele bridge pickup onto there. I either need to cut a new guard for it, screw one of the conversion rings onto the guard (which looks a bit awkward, like on my Jaguar above), or buy one of those saw-off Tele bridge remnants to use as a pickup ring around it. Decisions, decisions!

It probably wouldn't sound much like a Les Paul though, since it's a thin all-maple body with a mahogany neck and a wraparound bridge.

This landed today fresh from Japan. Survived the trip in just a (well packed) box and a vintage gig bag.

Image

The pickups are predictably microphonic so I'll definitely pop something new in the bridge position, likely a noiseless P90. Neck is nice and comfy in size and shape and the weight of the whole thing is delightfully light... probably the lightest I own.

The Gigbag it came with is pretty cool and I haven't seen an old one like this for quite some time.

Image

All told, with taxes, this landed on my doorstep for just a little over £550 including shipping...which is kinda crazy, almost 2010-era, price.

Glad it arrived safely and is as nice as you had hoped. The weight on it is unbelievable. Between the specs, the condition, and the price, it sounds like you landed yourself a real unicorn of a Les Paul.

Don't sell this one!

Yeah, I don't think I'll get this lucky again. It'll only get sold if it ends up not being used at all. I already switched out the bridge humbucker for a Railhammer Neuvo 90 (humbucking) that I had in the drawer. Sounds much more my thing now, but still different enough from the rest. I can see it being great for adding thickness to recordings when layering guitars.

I'd like to change out the plastics for black versions for more of a Gibson LP Custom look.

I really get a kick out of seeing these old Grecos pop up. I don't really remember seeing them back in the day, but they all seem to be of above-average quality and are highly regarded.

I don't recall seeing them either when I was young...I can only assume the birth and rise of internet sales has a lot to do with their resurgence over in the west.

My LP Standard is 12lbs :wtf: That's with a Bigsby, Vibramate, and Grovers. But 12lbs is 12lbs. It's a pig! It doesn't bother me though since it sounds and plays so great. I certainly couldn't stand with it over my shoulder for a couple hours though.

Ooof, yeah, my back would be pretty angry about a 12lb guitar these days. My old old LP I had back in the 90s was 13 or 14lbs and it screwed my back up a little playing it every day. It's one of the reasons I got mostly into Fenders as an alternative.
