New Guitar Day: Fender EVH 5150
Sorry no pics. I'm unsure how to post pics, as I don't have any images stored or set on the internet ....
But the guitar is exactly like others on the internet: a 2022 EVH 5150 Special Ash Body (satin clear finish) Super Strat, with Floyd Rose and D Tuna, two alnico II pups, hockey stick headstock, lovely ebony fretboard.
It's best attribute, and probably the reason I bought it: A SUPER COOL KILL SWITCH. It's the evolution of guitar as far as I'm concerned.
So in my relatively late years I'm learning old VH songs like Running with the Devil, Unchained, Pretty Woman, Beautiful Girls, Mean Streets ....
EVH was a force of nature as a guitarist. Old VH has a certain California youth in the 70s vibe that I enjoy a lot. Sophomoric lyrics, but relentless drums and guitar, LOUD!!!
Its quite the kick.
Ash is being phased out by Fender. And yet their legendary instruments from 1950 to 1956 were ash. The guitar is not the Wolfgang, but a re-imaging by his son of his father's 5150 Kramer.
It's a lovely guitar. Built like a tank.
If you are new to VH, I'd recommend two videos on the internet: a 1977-8 local gig at a Hilton hotel in Pasadena, .... They were just kids, unsigned. And their last show at the Hollywood Bowl. Ed, Alex his brother, Wolfie his son back David Lee Roth.
Funny thing, the guitar thru a cranked distorted amp, sounds exactly like the concert videos. It's pretty spectacular.

Re: New Guitar Day: Fender EVH 5150
beautiful buy! i love Eddie Van Halen. he's the reason my childhood strat is now a black and white EVH strat with a floyd rose. I own a Charvel because of him too (for the floyd rose, locking nut, fast neck, etc). he's also the reason I own a 5150 head, which worked out, because I've been listening to and recording a lot of metal the last 5 years, and it's a great amp for that!
I went through a big Van Halen phase when i was about 30..

I'm just reading your post and I'm so happy to see it! I did not think there were any VH fans in this forum!!! Lol.
I've got a little 15 watt 5150 III and I love it. Here's my take: sheer amazement really. Mr. Van Halen spent a lifetime seeking tone. Both his guitars and amps are treasures.
Thanks for posting a reply. I wish you the very best in all endeavors, especially your music! Peace.

i don't think there are many here that are VH fans, but we're hiding
but I think there is a lot of appreciation for the quality and ergonomics and comfort of the EVH Wolfgang, and the 5150 amp heads are very well regarded from rock to extreme metal genres. it really does cover it all.
Eddie was definitely a professional tone chaser, and he was onto something! my dad always liked Van Halen growing up, so I resisted it for a good portion of my life, until i hit 30 and actually listened to Eddie's playing. game changer for me!
Thanks for the kind words!

I keep it in a Gibson gigbag.

I played this thing at a party once, and inbetween sets this guy came up to me and he was actually upset over this. He was like the Simpson's comic book guy, but y'know for guitar forums. "What are you trying to pull?" "This is clearly a Fender based guitar." "Well, I never read that EVH put a Gibson logo on his guitar." etc.
I think the Tele bridge was the straw that broke the camel's back. Heh.

That's a laugh riot. If there's a "next time," you should just keep a straight face and tell them, "You don't know what you're talking about. That neck came straight off a Gibson Telecaster reissue."badform wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:28 amI played this thing at a party once, and inbetween sets this guy came up to me and he was actually upset over this.
