NGD (2/3): Thx NAFTA!

Post by npfrs » Thu Sep 07, 2023 3:47 pm

The first NGD can be found here

Even though I ordered this before the Firebird, it only arrived today. All the way from Mexico is my new Paragram (inspired by the album cover for Madvilliany)!

Also, your eyes are not deceiving you... that's an alumitone p-bass pup in the neck position (and standard alumitone in the bridge).

V understated headstock as well.

If you're wondering how it sounds, the answer is ... balanced. While a lot of my guitars have a distinct sound related to their pickups I find this guitar just sounds like a very clean, balanced, and surprisingly hot, guitar and I think it will be a great piece to send through a large fx chain (my fave thing to do, if I'm being honest). I'm planning on switching the strings to flatwound 12s (I played 12s with a wound 3rd on all other guitars).

You, uh, maybe have noticed the title says 2/3... there's still one more coming later this month (and it's a doozy)...

Until then... sayonara*!

*I know I could have used "adios" but I really wanted a Samurai Pizza Cats gif in this thread sooo... there.

I've always wanted to put P and J bass pickups in a guitar. That looks awesome.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

That is cool as hell - clean, clear design, sharp execution, a real vibe. LOVE IT.

Reminds me of an aesthetic I had when I was looking for a bass as a teenager in the 80s, some of them seemed like they were pure sound blocks designed to create perfect bass output.

Very dope. Great looking guitar and a fantastic album! I'd be really curious to try that pickup configuration.

Thanks all! For background, this was a "shop piece," for lack of a better term. The builder, Carlos, is making some guitars based on album covers and this was the first one he's made, so the choice of pickups was mostly aesthetic. I'm really enjoying this pickup combo though! It's not something I ever would have asked for/dreamt-up myself but it works quite well!

UPDATE: I put some flatwound 12s on this guitar and it sings!

So I'm trying to use the camera connection kit to record direct to my phone with my Scarlett 18i20; in this case, I recorded a phrase into a Boss RC-3, then ran that into my Milkman the Amp 50, into the soundcard, while recording video.

For reference, it's middle position -> neck position -> bridge position -> middle position with killswitch
