Yeah I think that's a good summary, some guitars just don't quite work. I prefer the Mustang to the Strat especially tonally, but when I've had a few they just don't get played, I think because the Jag has the same kind of neck feel plus more tonal versatility so it's a bit redundant.JackFawkes wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2024 8:33 amSame for me, and I feel that way too... I have a Strat that I've had longer than any other instrument currently in my arsenal, and I like it, but I don't love it... I keep wanting to replace it with a Mustang, but when I think about selling it my sentimentality shelves the idea.
For me, this might sound silly, but I feel like the size of the body is too big... or maybe the shape of it doesn't feel right on me? One way or another the ergonomics of Strats have always just felt slightly off for me.
The only person who has made sense of the Strat layout/ergonomics, to me, is Jeff Beck. The volume control being so close to the bridge pickup and under the bar at certain angles, well, he basically made an entire style of playing out of it by being dextrous in a way most players can't, to combine pickup changes, volume swells and compound whammy bar bend/vibrato dips. A great example of a Strat at it's best; it just sort of disappears into him.
